GATE Computer Science Subject Weightage (2005-2009): Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineering is  a national level examination conducted every year. It provides admission to post-graduate engineering courses like M.Tech, M.E offered by the IITs, NITs, and various private institutions. Analysis of GATE Computer Science Exam

For the year 2017, Computer Science consists of 65 questions carrying a total of 100 marks. Out of these 65 questions, 10 questions carrying a total of 15 marks will be on General Aptitude (GA). Rest of the 55 questions will be from Technical and Engineering Mathematics section.

In GATE 2017, there will be negative marking for the multiple choice type questions.

  • For, 1-mark multiple-choice questions, 1/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer.

  • There is NO negative marking for numerical answer type questions.

GATE Computer Science Subject Weightage for 2005-2009

Since 2005, a lot of changes have occurred in the GATE examination in terms of distribution of marks and questions.

  • From the year 2005 to 2008, the total marks allotted to the exam was 150.
  • In 2009, the total marks for the exam was 100 and the number of questions dropped to 60.
  • From 2010 onwards, the exam pattern completely changed. The written examination has a total of 65 questions carrying a total of 100 marks.

From the above information, it is clear that Algorithm and Computer Organization carries a higher weightage of marks. Theory of Computation and Digital Logic also have significant weightage of marks. Least weightage of marks is seen under the topics Software Engineering and Computer Network.

In this way, you will able to filter out topics from each year and can prepare accordingly. However, we do not advise the candidates to leave any topic. You must strive to cover each and every topic but you should do so with the time constraint in mind. Try to concentrate more on topics of higher significance and maintain a proper strategy.
