GATE Electrical Engineering Subject Weightage Analysis 2016: Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineering is a national level examination conducted every year. It provides admission to post-graduate engineering courses like M.Tech, M.E offered by the IITs, NITs, and various private institutions. This year, IIT Roorkee is the organising institute for GATE Exam.
GATE is the most popular competitive entrance exam where lakhs of candidates appear for it. As the GATE 2017 Exam date is approaching, it is time for the candidates to start preparing. Similar to our previous articles, we will be emphasizing on the importance of previous years’ papers analysis and how it can have a positive impact on your preparation and GATE score.
This is our last article of the electrical engineering subject weightage analysis series concerning the years 2005-2016. This article will cover all the information related to electrical engineering subject weightage analysis for the year 2016. We have also mentioned the important topics for each subject of the EE paper in our in-depth analysis.
Analysis of GATE Electrical Engineering Exam
For the year 2017, Electrical engineering consists of 65 questions carrying a total of 100 marks. Out of these 65 questions, 10 questions carrying a total of 15 marks will be on General Aptitude (GA). Rest of the 55 questions will be from Technical and Engineering Mathematics section.
|Section||No. of Questions||Marks Per Section|
|Engineering Mathematics + Technical||55||85 (15+70)|
In GATE 2017, there will be negative marking for the multiple choice type questions.
- For, 1-mark multiple-choice questions, 1/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer.
- For 2-mark multiple-choice questions, 2/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer.
- There is NO negative marking for numerical answer type questions.
Once you get acquainted with the exam pattern, you must drag your attention towards previous year’s papers analysis. It is the most important aspect which you need to consider to ease off your preparation and to improve your exam score. Thus, it is imperative to know the pattern of questions and distribution of marks of the topics covered in GATE exam.
Now, let’s shift our focus to the electrical engineering subject weightage analysis for the both the sessions of GATE 2016 and also analyze the important topics.
GATE Electrical Engineering Subject Weightage Analysis 2016
Since 2005, a lot of changes has been subjected to the GATE exam pattern. Initially the paper carried a total of 150 marks including 90 questions. Later on, the number of questions and marks dropped to 60 and 100 in 2009. From 2010 onwards, the number of questions increased to 65 and the total marks allotted to the paper was 100. This particular pattern is being followed since.
Have a look at our previous articles for an in-depth analysis and better understanding of GATE Electrical Engineering paper for the years 2005-2015:
