Now, let’s move to our analysis of mechanical engineering subject weightage of marks from year 2010 to 2013 and try to analyze the important topics for each.

 Name of the Subject  2010  2011  2012  2013
 Engineering Mathematics  9  13  13  14
 Engineering Mechanics  –  5  5  –
 Strength of Materials  5  10  10  6
 Theory of Machines  13  7  7  9
 Machine Design  4  2  2  7
 Fluid Mechanics  14  5  5  6
 Heat Transfer  2  6  6  10
 Thermodynamics  10  16  16  9
 Refrigeration & Air-Conditioning  2  1  1  1
 Manufacturing Engineering  11  14  14  18
 Industrial Engineering  15  6  6  5
 General Aptitude (GA)  15  15  15  15
 Total Marks  100  100  100 100

It is clear from the above information, that Manufacturing Engineering and Thermodynamics carries a higher weightage of marks. This trend has been followed since 2005, wherein we see these topics dominating the Mechanical Engineering paper. Thus, you must put these at the top of your priority list.

Least weightage of marks is seen under the topics of Refrigeration & Air-Conditioning and Machine Design. However, we do not advise the candidates to leave any topic. You must strive to cover each and every topic but you should do so with the time constraint in mind. Try to concentrate more on topics of higher significance and maintain a proper strategy.
