MPPSC Prelims Exam Analysis: Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC) conducted MP State Services Examination on 31 May 2016. Clearly, it is one of the most prestigious examinations in Madhya Pradesh and a huge number of candidates appeared for the preliminary examination. In this article, we will be providing a detailed MPPSC Prelims Exam Analysis of General Studies Paper 1.
The Preliminary Examination for MPPSC Recruitment consisted of two papers of objective type.

There were a total of 100 questions in each paper. Here we will take a brief look at Paper-1 i.e. General Studies paper.

Unlike Previous Year, Difficulty Level of Question Paper was relatively EASY. As expected, a total of 29 questions out of 100 were specifically based on Madhya Pradesh. Let us have a look at the distribution of questions across all subjects.
Clearly, there was a fair distribution of questions across all subjects. However, one can observe that a good number of questions were based on General Knowledge and Geography. A total of 53 questions were from these two sections alone. The section-wise analysis of MPPSC Prelims is as follows.
General Knowledge: MPPSC Prelims Exam Analysis
As evident from the graph above, maximum number of questions was from General Knowledge only. Be advised that when we are saying general knowledge we mean all the topics like Current Affairs, Static Affairs, MP G.K and Computer Awareness.
Let’s take a look at distribution of questions across these topics
Clearly, maximum numbers of questions were from static affairs. Although, a good number of questions were from Madhya Pradesh related General Knowledge.
- Current Affairs: 8 questions
- Static Affairs: 12 questions
- MP G.K: 9 questions
- Computer Awareness: 4 questions
Geography: MPPSC Prelims Exam Analysis
There were 20 questions from Geography in MPPSC Prelims 2016 General Studies paper-1. We can divide these questions into three basic categories.
- Indian Geography
- World Geography
- Geography of MP
Let’s take a look at distribution of questions among these sections
Clearly, 50% of questions i.e. 10 out of 20 were from Geography of Madhya Pradesh itself. Although the difficulty level of questions was easier as compared to previous year MPPSC papers. We can expect an average attempt of 13 to 16 questions in geography.
Polity: MPPSC Prelims Exam Analysis
Surprisingly, this year, the questions from polity were distributed among two major sections only.
There were a total of 12 questions.
As evident in the picture above, most of the questions were from bills and Acts. More specifically, the questions were based on the following:
- SC & ST Act 1989
- Land Acquisition Acts
- Human Rights Act
Science & Technology: MPPSC Prelims Exam Analysis
There were a total of 13 questions from this section. Difficulty levels of questions were quite easier as compared to other similar exams including UPSC IAS Exam.
Maximum of the questions from this section was based on Higher Secondary level Biology. There was a fair distribution of questions across physics and chemistry as well.
In all, there were 6 questions from biology, 3 from Physics, and 4 from Chemistry.
History: MPPSC Prelims Exam Analysis
Questions asked from history are normally classified as Ancient, Medieval and Modern. But, in MPPSC 2016 there were no questions from Ancient History. Let’s look at distribution of questions among these sections.
There were 5 questions based on History of Madhya Pradesh, 4 from Medieval History, and 4 from Modern history both national and international.
Environment: MPPSC Prelims Exam Analysis
There were 9 questions from this section. When it comes to classification of this category it would be majorly around Biodiversity and Climate Change.
As shown in the image above there were 3 questions based on biodiversity and 6 of them were based on Climate Change.
After looking at the difficulty level, one can say that the combined cut-off for MPPSC Pre GS Paper 1 and General Aptitude Test would be somewhere around 130 to 140 out of 400.
