RPSC RAS Prelims Exam Analysis & Answer Key: Rajasthan Public Service Commission conducted RAS/ RTS Combined Preliminary Examination on 28 August 2016. As expected, a huge number of candidates appeared on the examination day. Surprisingly, more than 15% of candidates were from outside of Rajasthan, which means the competition has been escalated up a notch.

RPSC RAS Prelims Exam Analysis 2016
Here is the Detailed RPSC RAS Prelims Exam Analysis, with section-wise distribution of questions and weightage of various topics in RAS/ RTS Preliminary Examination.
Now, it was obvious that there would be Rajasthan based questions in the examination but this year 59 out of 150 questions were based straight on Rajasthan. Pondering over those questions, we get the following data.
As shown in the image above, Rajasthan Specific Questions dominated the RAS Preliminary Paper especially in General Knowledge, History and Geography. The questions from Art and Culture were entirely based on Rajasthan only. Current Affairs section too had questions based on Rajasthan.
Moving on, let us take a look at the section-wise distribution of question in RAS/ RTS Combined Preliminary Examination 2016.
There were a total number of 150 questions based on various topics as shown in the image above. Although General Knowledge and Current Affairs dominated the written paper, still, one can say that the distribution of questions across various sections was quite fair.
RPSC RAS Prelims Exam Analysis 2016: Current Affairs
Current Affairs Questions this year were distributed across various sections be it Economy, Sports, International news etc. Here is a graph showing the distribution of current affairs questions.
As shown above, National Current Affairs were from three different sections namely
- Rajasthan Current Affairs
- Economic Current Affairs
- Other Miscellaneous Current Affairs
Other than that, the sports section dominated the current affairs section which was quite expected considering the recent RIO Olympics Event. There were five questions straight from RIO Olympics only, other than that there were questions across Asian Games and other sports events both National and International.
RPSC RAS Prelims Exam Analysis 2016: General Knowledge
General Knowledge contained 28 questions in total out of 150. As expected, most of the questions were based on Rajasthan.
As shown in the image above, 20 questions out of 28 were based on Rajasthan and the remaining 8 were from around the world including India.
RPSC RAS Prelims Exam Analysis 2016: Economy
Economy was another important part of the examination. Difficulty level of questions was one notch higher than the previous year examinations.
Economy was distributed in 3 parts having 14 questions in total. Some of the questions were based on Economic and Financial Current Affairs as well. Most of the questions were based on Rajasthan Economy and Indian Economy.
RPSC RAS Prelims Exam Analysis 2016: Polity
There were a total of 14 questions from polity out of which 4 were based on Rajasthan Political systems and remaining was based on Indian Polity.
RPSC RAS Prelims Exam Analysis 2016: Science & Technology
There were 15 questions from science and tech and the difficulty level of the examination was relatively easier. 50% of questions from science and tech were from chemistry. Let’s take a look at the distribution.
Only 2 out of 15 questions were based on discoveries and inventions. Biology & Biochemistry and Physics has equal distribution of questions.
RPSC RAS Prelims Exam Analysis 2016: Numerical & Mental Ability
There were a total of 20 questions from this section 8 of which were from mathematics and remaining from reasoning. Reasoning dominated this section with 12 questions.
RPSC RAS Prelims Exam Analysis 2016: History & Geography
Geography had most of the questions based on Rajasthan. There were a total of 16 questions with relatively easier questions as compared to previous years. 5 questions were from National geography whereas only 2 questions were asked from World Geography.
There were 19 questions from History. 8 of those were from Rajasthan History. Surprisingly this year, there were no questions from world history at all. There were a total of 11 questions from Ancient, Modern and Medieval History.
