Remember that vapour pressure is a partial pressure over a liquid. You can realise vapour pressure if you have ever seen cooking of rice in a closed container (not a pressure cooker). It is due to the vapour pressure created by water transforming to steam that tends to dusplace the lid so that it can come out. Thus you see the vapours coming out of the container even though the lid is closed.
