The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) operates as an independent entity at the behest of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). 

The main function of IBPS is to shortlist and select deserving candidates for various clerical and management post of a number of Public Sector Banks (PSBs).

Though SBI has existed long before the formation of IBPS, i.e. 1975, The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection has created its own reputation as an elite and highly unbiased selection committee for recruiting top talent for Indian Banks.

IBPS periodically accepts exam applications from candidates at their website, and the exams are organized at various locations in the country in online mode.

IBPS conducts recruitment examinations for the following various posts mentioned below:

IBPS CWE Clerk Exam:

A Bank Clerk is the first point of contact for inquiries & guidance to the customers of every bank. IBPS Clerk is the starting point of job in any Bank. That means one will get plenty of opportunities to get promoted to an officer cadre.

IBPS CWE PO/MT Exam:

Probationary Officer (PO) is a very lucrative post among bank exam aspirants as it is the first ladder to enter and serve as an Officer in Banking Industry. A probationary officer has to work in various departments. It can be Deposits, Loans & Advances, Clearing, Pensions, Payment and Cheque clearances, Fixed Deposit, ATM and Internet Banking, Credit Card, Report Making, etc.

IBPS Specialist Officer Exam:

There are multiple positions under IBPS Specialist officers, some of them are I. T. Officers (Scale I), Agricultural Field Officers (Scale I), Rajbhasha Adhikari (Scale I), Law Officers (Scale I), HR / Personnel Officers (Scale I), and Marketing Officers (Scale I).

IBPS RRB (Office Assistant and Officer Grade) Exam: 

There are multiple positions to be filled through IBPS RRB Exam such as Officer Scale-I , Scale-II & Scale-III.There are also specialist officer positions like I.T. Officer,Chartered Accountant, Law Officer,Agriculture Officer, Marketing Officer.

In clerical cadre, Office Assistant positions are also being recruited.

IBPS PO Selection Procedure:

The Selection Procedure for recruiting Probationary Officers through IBPS PO Recruitment Examination is still the same i.e. 3-Tier Selection Process.

IBPS Clerk Selection Procedure:

The Recruitment Process involved for IBPS CWE Clerk VI is a 2 Tier Process i.e. Preliminary Written Examination and Mains Written Examination. A candidate needs to qualify at each level in order to move to the next one.

IBPS RRB Selection Procedure:

IBPS RRB Selection Procedure 2016 for Office Assistant (Multipurpose) Post is a 2-Tier Process.There will be a Prelims & Mains Written Examination for the recruitment to Regional Rural Banks (RRBs). The detailed information regarding both papers have been mentioned below.

IBPS RRB Selection Procedure 2016 for Officer Scale I Post is a 3-Tier Process. There will be a Prelims & Mains Written Examination for the recruitment to Regional Rural Banks (RRBs), followed by an Interview. 

IBPS PO Educational Qualifications:

A candidate must possess atleast a Bachelors Degree from a recognized college or university recognised the Central Government.

IBPS RRB Educational Qualifications:

The candidate must possess a graduate degree from a recognized university or its equivalent. But, the qualification varies a little for each post which we have elaborated below:

IBPS RRB Office Assistant (Multipurpose)

  • Degree in any discipline from a recognized University or its equivalent. Proficiency in local language as prescribed by the participating RRB/s as well as professional computer skills are also desirable.
  • No Experience is required for this position.

IBPS RRB Officer Scale-I

  • Degree in any discipline from a recognized University or its equivalent. Preference will be there for the candidates having degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, Animal Husbandry, Veterinary Science, Agricultural Engineering, Pisciculture, Agricultural Marketing and Cooperation, Information Technology, Management, Law, Economics and Accountancy. You must be proficient in the local language as per the norms set by participating RRBs. Computer knowledge or awareness will be desirable.
  • No Experience is required for this position.

Officer Scale-II General Banking Officer

  • Degree in any discipline from a recognized University or its equivalent with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate. Preference will be there for candidates having degree in Banking, Finance, Marketing, Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, Animal Husbandry, Veterinary Science, Agricultural Engineering, Pisciculture, Agricultural Marketing and Cooperation, Information Technology, Management, Law, Economics and Accountancy.
  • Experience: Two years as an officer in a Bank or Financial Institution.

IBPS RRB Officer Scale-II Specialist Officers

  • Information Technology Officer: Degree from a recognised University in Electronics / Communication / Computer Science / Information Technology or its equivalent with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate. Certificate in ASP, PHP, C++, Java, VB, VC, OCP etc will be desirable. Work Experience- 1 year.
  • Chartered Accountant: Certified Associate (CA) from Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. Work Experience- 1 year.
  • Law Officer: Degree from a recognised University in Law or its equivalent with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate. Work Experience- Two years as an advocate or should have worked as Law Officer in Banks or Financial Institutions for a period not less than two years.
  • Treasury Manager: Certified Associate (CA) from Institute of Chartered Accountants of India or MBA in Finance from a recognized university/ institution. Work Experience- 1 year.
  • Marketing Officer: MBA in Marketing from a recognized university. Work Experience- 1 year.
  • Agricultural Officer: Degree in Agriculture/ Horticulture/ Dairy/ Animal Husbandry/ Forestry/ Veterinary Science/ Agricultural Engineering/ Pisciculture from a recognized university or its equivalent with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate. Work Experience- 2 years.

IBPS RRB Officer Scale-III

  • Degree in any discipline from a recognized University or its equivalent with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate. Preference will be there for candidates having Degree/ Diploma in Banking, Finance, Marketing, Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, Animal Husbandry, Veterinary Science, Agricultural Engineering, Pisciculture, Agricultural Marketing and Co-operation, Information Technology, Management, Law, Economics and Accountancy.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years experience as an Officer in a Bank or Financial Institutions.

IBPS PO Exam Age Limit:

In order to be eligible, a candidate must be between the age of 20 to 30 Years. A candidate must have been born not earlier than 02.07.1986 and not later than 01.07.1996 (both dates inclusive)

The relaxation in the upper age limit has been applied according to government norms. They are as follows

  • SC/ ST: 5 Years
  • OBC: 3 Years
  • PH: 10 Years
  • PH + OBC: 13 Years
  • PH + SC/ST: 15 Years

IBPS Clerk Exam Age Limit:

A candidate must be between 20 to 28 years as on 1 August 2016. A candidate must have been born not earlier than 02.08.1988 and not later than 01.08.1996 (both dates inclusive).

The relaxation in the upper age limit has been applied according to government norms. They are as follows

  • SC/ ST: 5 Years
  • OBC: 3 Years
  • PH: 10 Years
  • PH + OBC: 13 Years
  • PH + SC/ST: 15 Years

IBPS RRB Exam Age Limit:

As per IBPS RRB 2016 Notification, the applicant’s age must be between

  • For Officer Scale- III- Above 21 years – Below 40 years i.e. candidates should not have been born earlier than 03.09.1976 and later than 31.08.1995 (both dates inclusive).
  • For Officer Scale- II- Above 21 years – Below 32 years i.e. candidates should not have been born earlier than 03.09.1984 and later than 31.08.1995 (both dates inclusive).
  • For Officer Scale- I- Above 18 years – Below 30 years i.e. candidates should not have been born earlier than 03.09.1986 and later than 31.08.1998 (both dates inclusive).
  • For Office Assistant (Multipurpose) – Between 18 years and 28 years i.e. candidates should have not been born earlier than 02.09.1988 and later than 01.09.1998 (both dates inclusive).

The relaxation in the upper age limit has been applied according to government norms. They are as follows

  • SC/ ST: 5 Years
  • OBC: 3 Years
  • PH: 10 Years
  • PH + OBC: 13 Years
  • PH + SC/ST: 15 Years

If a candidate does not fall in the required age bracket, he/ she cannot appear for the written examination.
