Who can apply for SBI exam?

Educational Qualification

Graduation in any discipline from a recognized University or any equivalent qualification recognized as such by the Central Government. Those who are in the Final Year/Semester of their Graduation may also apply provisionally subject to the condition.

Age Limit 

For SBI PO, the age limit must not be below 21 years and not above 30 years as on the given date mentioned in notification. While for SBI JuniorAssiciate/Clerk, the age limit must not be below 20 years and not above 28 years as on the given date mentioned in notification.

How to apply for SBI Exam?

  • Before applying to Online Applicants have valid email & Scanned copies of photo, signature.
  • Candidates should log on to the website
  • Go to Careers — > Click on “Latest Announcement”.
  • Choose the desired post & Click on “Apply Online”.

Selection Procedure of SBI PO and SBI Clerk

The examination will be held in two phases - Preliminary and Main. Candidates who will qualify in preliminary examination will be required to appear for mains examination and shortlisted candidates in the mains examination will subsequently be called for a Group Discussion & Interview. Prelims stage is only qualifying in nature. It does not play a role in final selection. The final selection depends on marks achieved in mains and further rounds.

Job Profile Description

Probationary Officer

This is the Junior Management Level direct entry point for dynamic young graduates. A probationary officer gets exposed to challenging assignments and also gets the opportunity to involve in pioneering technological and financial activities for the Indian Banking industry. The opportunities include working in the various departments of SBI ranging from Personal Banking to Rural Banking, Credit, Forex, Treasury etc. to name a few.

Career Path of SBI PO - The Probationary Officers will be on probation of two years during which they will be given intensive training. Towards the end of their probation/training period, they will be subjected to a screening process. While those Officers who achieve the predetermined standards may be confirmed and given placement in the next higher grade i.e., Officer Middle Management Grade Scale-II, others who qualify in the test but fail to achieve the standards set for placement in Middle Management Grade Scale-II, will be confirmed as Officer Junior Management Grade Scale-I. The services of those Officers who fail to qualify in this process will be terminated. Bank provides immense opportunities for growth in the Bank including opportunities for postings abroad. Junior Associate/Clerk

Young graduates are recruited as Junior Associate in the Clerical cadre. The Bank offers fast track growth opportunities wherein Junior Associates are eligible for promotion in Officer Cadre on completion of 3 years' of service. Roles and responsibilities include 

  • Assisting in the lending and operations of providing financial assistance to small scale enterprises (not including small scale industries) such as fruit/vegetable vendors, artisans, and self-employed individuals.
  • Manning the deposit/withdrawal counters i.e. play the part of a Single Window Operator. 
  • Working on documentation and back-office work like ledger maintenance, balance tallying, data entry and more.
  • Making customer calls for selling banking services, advisory services, and cross-selling products of the bank inside and outside the bank premises. This will require extensive outdoor traveling.

Specialist Officer

I am in the final year of graduation. Am I eligible for this exam?

Answer: Yes you are. But your eligibility is subject to the condition that if called for interview, you will have to produce proof of having passed the graduation examination on or before 01.07.2017.

I have scored 59.5% marks in graduation. Am I eligible for SBI PO 2017?

Answer: As per the official notification, there is no such mention of any percentage requirement. You just need to fill out the percentage obtained in graduation nearest two decimals in the online application. In case your college/university awards CGPA/ OGPA, the same should be converted into percentage and indicated in online application. If called for interview, the candidate will have to produce a certificate issued by the appropriate authority inter alia stating that the norms of the University regarding conversion of grade into percentage and the percentage of marks scored by the candidate in terms of norms.

Is there any change in the exam pattern of SBI PO 2017?

Answer: There is no change in the exam pattern of SBI PO. Exam will be conducted in 3 phases namely-
1. Preliminary Exam
2. Mains Exam
3. Group Exercise and Interview

Will all employees get Rs.12.95 lakh annual salary?

Answer: No.The total compensation as advertised by SBI ranges between 7.93 lakhs to 12.95 lakhs /year, which includes allowances such as house rental/ accommodation, C.C.A, medical & other benefits. Some of these allowances are not paid in cash with your salary.For example, SBI offers Rs.8000 – 20,000 as house rent allowance that differs for each city, which gets directly credited to the landlord`s account. After deducting all these perks, the SBI PO salary (take home) could be approximately Rs.35,000­40,000 /month.

I completed my degree through distance education. Am I eligible?

Answer: Yes.Candidates who have completed graduation through correspondence/ part –time/ open university /distance education may also apply.

I had taken education/ personal/ credit/ home loan from another bank & did not pay a single rupee. Am I eligible to apply?

Answer: As per the latest rule mentioned in SBI notification, candidates with record of default in repayment of loans & credit card dues are not eligible for this PO recruitment. So if you have not regularly repaying the loan EMI, you are NOT eligible to apply.

Where to pay application fees?

Answer: The registration fees must be paid through online mode, via Debit/ Credit card/ Netbanking only. The payment option is integrated along with the application form. So once you complete filling the personal details, proceed to pay the fees. Remember to take a print of the e­receipt on successful completion of transaction.

Can I pay the fees at SBI branches?

Answer: Not required. There is no facility to pay the fees at SBI branches. All applicants should compulsorily remit the fees only through online payment.

Will I receive registration no. & password by Email/ SMS?

Answer: After entering your personal details, an email/ SMS containing your registration number & password will be sent. Candidates are advised to save or write it in a place that you won't forget. These details are required to download your call letter & view results as there is no facility to recover your registration number if you lose it.

I submitted the application with a mistake. Can I modify it or register again?

Answer: Once you submit the application, it is not possible to edit any details thereafter. But you can submit a new application with correct information by paying the registration fees again.

Phase-I Pattern: Preliminary Examination of SBI PO/Clerk Prelims:
