Common Eligibility Test (CET) - Single test for Government job Exams

Common Eligibility Test (CET) – Single test for Government job Exams: As all the exam candidates know that the Government of India has constituted a bill in the Rajya Sabha on March 14, 2018, for conducting transparency in government examinations. A Common Eligibility Test will now be organized for all the competitive examinations to select candidates for the vacancies of Group ‘B’ (Non-Gazetted) and Lower level posts.

Here we will present information about the CET to the candidates preparing for the competitive examinations. Like what is the intention of the government to organize the CET Examination? what will be the selection process? and what is the level of examination?

Common Eligibility Test (CET) – Single test for Government job Exams | SSC, Banking, Railways, State

Why CET?

According to the details provided by the employee commission, the Commission has to cancel 9 exams partially or completely in the past five years. Such cancellation of exams is a complete waste of efforts and resources of both the aspirants and the Government. The reputation f SSC has also darkened in the eye of public. Candidates lose their precious time and effort that they have put in preparing for those exams.

S.No Name of the Examination cancelled Reason(s)
1 CGLE 2013 Various irregularities and malpractices
2 CHSL 2013 Non-isue of admit card to the 432 candidates
3 CGLE 2014 Loss of post examination material
4 CHSLE 2014 Cheating and malpractice cases at Raipur, Chandigarh, Allahabad and Delhi
5 Constable (GD) Examination 2015 Cheating cases
6 SI/CAPF Examination 2016 Leakage of question papers (OMR)
7 MTSE (NT), 2016 Leakage of question paper (OMR)
8 & 9 CGLE 2016 (Tier 1 )and Tier 2) Leakage of question paper & server glitches affecting 9571 candidates

Given the following reasons CET (Common Eligibility Test) was proposed by the government to the Rajya Sabha on March 14, 2018:

  • To bring transparency in various recruitment process
  • candidates will  to get rid of irregularities and disorder in the conduct of the examination
  • To deal with challenges with operational workload and low manpower

Selection Process of CET

The selection process of the exam is mainly divided into two stages as follows:
(i) Tier-I: This stage of the examination is common screening test subsuming the preliminary Tier-I examinations conducted by all recruiting agencies of the Government of India, viz. SSC, Railways, Banking, etc.
(ii) Tier-II: The main Examinations to be conducted independently by the concerned recruiting agencies.

Registration for CET

In order to start the process under the amended system, candidates must register themselves on a dedicated portal developed by National Career Services (NCS), Ministry of Labor and Employment, which will provide a unique ID for each candidate.

CET will be organized at three levels at low levels:

(i) Matriculation level
(ii) Higher Secondary (10 + 2) level
(iii) Graduation level

Advantages of CET

  • CET will reduce the number of examinations conducted by the various agencies of the government and save the important money spent by various recruitment agencies to organize these examinations.
  • One can select out of several competition levels to regard his needs and intellectual level in order to give his best output.
  • The CET Score will be valid for 2 years. This score will help aspirants to appear for Tier II examinations which would be conducted independently by the respective recruiting agencies like SSC, Bank, Railway and other exams.

Disadvantages of CET

  • It would be a huge drawback for the candidates preparing for Public Service Commission Examinations in Regional Languages. Because s per the committee Government will be conducting the CET only in English and Hindi medium. CET Exam will not be conducted in regional languages.
  • According to the estimation,  around 5 crores candidates might be registering for all of the above CET level exams. This would increase the competition level to the next level.

NOTE: In February 2019, CET – Graduation Level Exam will only be conducted. Other CET level exams will be conducted when commission acquires the necessary capability to conduct exam in the 8th schedule languages.
