GATE Computer Science Subject Weightage (2010-2013): The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an All-India Examination conducted by the seven Indian Institutes of Technology. For the year 2017, Computer Science consists of 65 questions carrying a total of 100 marks. Out of these 65 questions, 10 questions carrying a total of 15 marks will be on General Aptitude (GA). Rest of the 55 questions will be from Technical and Engineering Mathematics section.

In GATE 2017, there will be negative marking for the multiple choice type questions.
- For, 1-mark multiple-choice questions, 1/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer.
- For 2-mark multiple-choice questions, 2/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer.
- There is NO negative marking for numerical answer type questions.

From 2010 onwards, the GATE exam pattern took a dramatic turn. The number of questions reduced to 65 and the total marks allotted to the paper was 100. It is clear from the above information, that Programming & Data Structures and Computer Organization & Architecture carries higher weightage of marks. We can see a dramatic change in the marks distribution of Digital Logic between the years 2010-13. Computer Networks also has significant weightage of marks. Thus, you must put these at the top of your priority list.
Least weightage of marks is under the topic of Web Technology. However, we do not advise the candidates to leave any topic. You must strive to cover each and every topic but you should do so with the time constraint in mind. Try to concentrate more on topics of higher significance and maintain a proper strategy.
