GATE Computer Science Subject Weightage (2014-2015): The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an All-India Examination conducted by the seven Indian Institutes of Technology. GATE exam is a gateway for qualifying candidates to secure admission to postgraduate programs in centrally funded Indian institutions. This year IIT Roorkee is the organising institute for GATE Exam.

Analysis of GATE Computer Science Exam
For the year 2017, Computer Science consists of 65 questions carrying a total of 100 marks. Out of these 65 questions, 10 questions carrying a total of 15 marks will be on General Aptitude (GA). Rest of the 55 questions will be from Technical and Engineering Mathematics section.

In GATE 2017, there will be negative marking for the multiple choice type questions.
- For, 1-mark multiple-choice questions, 1/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer.
- For 2-mark multiple-choice questions, 2/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer.
- There is NO negative marking for numerical answer type questions.

GATE Computer Science Subject Weightage for 2014-2015
From 2010 onwards, the GATE exam pattern took a dramatic turn. The number of questions reduced to 65 and the total marks allotted to the paper was 100. One subject common to all papers of GATE examination is Engineering Mathematics. Engineering maths has significant contribution in terms of distribution of marks every year in all of the papers. So, you must give it equal attention and try to put it at the top of your priority list.

From 2014 onwards, GATE examination was conducted in multiple sessions. Computer Science paper was held in 3 sessions i.e. forenoon and afternoon of 1st March 2014 and forenoon of 2nd March 2014. Similarly, there were 3 sessions for Civil Engineering paper in the year 2015.

From the above information, it is clear that Data Structures and Algorithms carries a higher weightage of marks. We can see a dramatic change in the marks distribution of Digital Logic between the years 2014-2015. Operating Systems and Computer Networks also carry a lot of weighatge of marks.
Least weightage of marks is under the topic of Web Technology. In this way, you will able to filter out topics from each year and can prepare accordingly. However, we do not advise the candidates to leave any topic. You must strive to cover each and every topic but you should do so with the time constraint in mind. Try to concentrate more on topics of higher significance and maintain a proper strategy.
