A candidate needs to qualify at each level in order to move to the next one. There has been a little change in IBPS PO Mains Exam Pattern. Please read below for that.

Tier I: IBPS PO Prelims 2016

Similar to SBI PO, the IBPS PO Prelims Examination is an Objective MCQ based paper with 3 sections – Reasoning Ability, Quantitative Aptitude and English Language.

Name of the Section  Number of Questions  Marks
 Reasoning Ability  30  30
 Quantitative Aptitude  35  35
 English Language  35  35
 Total  100  100

Some of the essential details related to IBPS PO Prelims 2016 are as follows.

  • The total number of questions will be 100.
  • The Paper mode will be English/ Hindi.
  • Each question carries 1 mark.
  • The total time to solve the entire paper is 60 minutes.
  • For every wrong answer, there is a negative marking of 0.25 mark.
  • There will be sectional and overall cutoff.

IBPS PO Prelims will be qualifying in nature. This means that marks secured in Preliminary Examination will not be considered while making the Final Merit List. But, a candidate needs to score well in order to move to next level, which is IBPS PO Mains.

Tier II: IBPS PO Mains 2016

The pattern of Mains Examination will be Objective MCQ based. There will be 5 sections – Reasoning, English, Quantitative Aptitude, General Awareness and Computer Knowledge.

Name of the Section   Number of Questions  Marks Allotted
 Reasoning Ability  50 50
 English Language  40 40
 Quantitative Aptitude  50 50
General Awareness (related Banking)  40 40
 Computer Knowledge  20 20
 Total  200  200

Now, talking about the major exam pattern change in IBPS PO Mains, each section will be separately timed for the written examination. So, the candidates need to attempt as per time allotted to each section.

Name of the Section   Number of Questions  Time (in mins.)
 Reasoning Ability  50 40
 English Language  40 30
 Quantitative Aptitude  50 40
General Awareness (related Banking)  40 20
 Computer Knowledge  20 10
 Total  200  140 minutes

Some of the essential details related to IBPS PO Mains 2016 are as follows.

  • The total number of questions will be 200.
  • Each section will be timed separately.
  • The Paper mode will be English/ Hindi.
  • Each question carries 1 mark.
  • For every wrong answer, there is a negative marking of 0.25 mark.
  • There will be sectional and overall cutoff.

This sudden change in pattern makes the exam more challenging as a candidate can only devote designated time to each section.

Tier III: Interview

The candidates who are shortlisted on the basis on their performance in IBPS PO Mains Examination will be called for the final round i.e. Interview. The Final Merit List will be based on the scores secured in Mains Examination and Interview Round.
