IBPS PO Exam Analysis – 22 October 2016
Before we begin our detailed exam review of IBPS PO Prelims, we would like to list out the exam pattern for the first time readers.
The IBPS PO Prelims Exam had 3 sections i.e. English, Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning. There are a total of 100 questions carrying 1 mark each.

The total duration for all the three papers is 1 hour. Candidates have to qualify in each of the three tests by securing cut-off marks to be decided by IBPS.
Now, back to IBPS PO Exam Analysis for the paper conducted on 22 October 2016. Similar to 16 October’s paper, the overall difficulty level of IBPS PO Preliminary Examination was Moderate. Owing to the level of competition, it was evident that a rather challenging paper is the best way to shortlist the most deserving ones.
IBPS PO Exam Analysis for Reasoning Ability
- Level of Difficulty: Easy to Moderate
- Good Attempts: 21-23
- Optimal Time: 20 Minutes
Compared to 16 October Examination, IBPS PO Reasoning Section has now reached a moderate difficulty level opposed to being easy last week.
- Syllogism (3 sentence based) – 5 Questions
- Inequality – 5 Questions
- Complex Arrangement/Sitting Arrangement/Puzzle – 15 Questions (3 sets) – (Floor arrangement , Circular arrangement and Linear arrangement)
- Blood Relation – 2 Questions
- Direction based – 2 Questions
- Ranking – 2 Questions
- Miscellaneous – 4 Questions
Although, we do not brand Reasoning Section to be all in all easy, but it was easier compared to other sections. No questions on Coding-Decoding asked.
IBPS PO Exam Analysis for Quantitative Aptitude
- Level of Difficulty: Easy to Moderate
- Good Attempts: 18-20
- Optimal Time: 25 Minutes
The Quant Section of IBPS PO Prelims Examination had a mixed bag of questions ranging from Easy to Moderate. A number of questions of series could be solved only if you have had good amount of practice.

- Simplification – 5 Questions
- Data Interpretation– 10 Questions (Line Graph and Tabular graph)
- Quadratic Equation – 5 Questions
- Age – 1 Question
- Mixture & Allegation – 2 Questions
- Partnership & Profit Loss – 3 Question
- Averages – 1 Question
- Boats & Stream – 1 Question
- Compound/Simple Interest – 2 Questions
- Time & Work – 1 Question
DI Questions were a bit calculative but a major score point for the ones equipped to answer those questions in time.
IBPS PO Exam Analysis for English Language
- Level of Difficulty: Moderate
- Good Attempts: 11-13
- Optimal Time: 15 Minutes
Compared to last week, the English Questions were Moderate this time. There were a few which could be easily solved by simple inspection.
- Reading Comprehension – 8 Questions
- Cloze Test – 7 Questions
- Spotting the Error – 5 Questions
- Sentence Correction – 5 Questions
- Parajumbles – 5 Questions
