Railways Senior Clerk-cum-Typist Job Description 

A candidate must be a graduate from a recognized college or university, with a good proficiency over computers, in order to apply for the post of Senior Clerk-cum-Typist.

The job profile of an Senior Clerk involves both clerical and supervisory work. You need to work closely with junior accounts in order to complete daily tasks. Senior Clerk in the Railways can be assigned to a number of departments, like Engineering, Telecommunication, Human Resource or Clerical Office. The job also requires high-level proficiency over computers as typing is an essential part of your daily tasks and duties.

There will be fixed hours of daily work, from 9 am to 6 pm, and only during weekdays. The job profile of a Senior Clerk-cum-Typist in the Indian Railways is not very hectic. In fact, most of your tasks will be indoors.


Railways Senior Clerk-cum-Typist Salary and Perks

According to RRB NTPC 2016 Notification, there are 869 vacancies for the post of Senior Clerk-cum-Typist. The salary or pay scale breakdown of a Senior Clerk-cum-Typist is as follows.

 Pay Scale  Rs. 5,200 – 20,200/-
 Grade Pay  Rs. 2,800/-
 Initial Pay  Rs. 8,500/-
 Total Pay  Rs. 11,360/-

Apart from fixed pay scale, there are a few added benefits and perks offered with the post of Senior Clerk-cum-Typist.

  • Dearness Allowance (DA)
  • Transport Allowance (TA)
  • House Rent Allowance (HRA)

There will be deductions from salary include 10% of total Pay towards New Pension scheme.


Railways Senior Clerk-cum-Typist Career Prospects and Future Growth

Similar to most RRB Non-Technical Posts, there is a minimum training period during which the selected RRB candidate is explained their respective job role and duties. As explained earlier, a senior clerk can be placed in a number of departments, which can be Engineering, Telecommunication or Accounting.

Depending on the department you get placed in, you can either go on a career progression and become a Chief Trains Clerk or you can also go on to become an Assistant Station Master (ASM) or Goods Guard (GG).

      Depending on the department a senior clerk get placed in, he/ she can either go on a career progression and become a Chief Trains Clerk or can also go on to become an Assistant Station Master (ASM) or Goods Guard (GG).
