SBI Clerk 2016 Syllabus and Exam Pattern for Junior Associate

The State Bank of India recently published the official notification for the Recruitment of Junior Associates (Customer Support & Sales) and Junior Agricultural Associates. There were a few significant changes in the exam pattern this year. Let us understand the new exam pattern and syllabus of SBI Clerk 2016 Written Examination for JA and JAA. But first, let us revisit the selection procedure for Clerical Cadre.


SBI Clerk 2016: Selection Procedure

As we have stated earlier, there has been a few changes in the pattern of written examination. The selection criteria will be 3 Tier or will be completed in three phases.

  • Phase I: SBI Clerk Prelims (Objective MCQ based)
  • Phase II: SBI Clerk Mains (Objective MCQ based)
  • Phase III: Local Language Test/ Interview (not confirmed yet)

Your performance in the written examination will largely contribute towards your chances of getting selected.


SBI Clerk 2016: Exam Pattern for JA & JAA

The Written Exam will be conducted online. The first paper, SBI Clerk Prelims, will be objective MCQ based. There will be 100 questions of 1 mark each, making the total marks to be 100. There will be 3 sections – English Language, Numerical Ability and Reasoning Ability.

Phase I: SBI Clerk Prelims

The total time allotted will be 60 minutes and there will be 1/4th mark negative marking for each incorrect answer. Sectional and Overall Cutoff will also be there.

Phase II: SBI Clerk Mains

The candidates who qualify Prelims will be called for the Mains Examination. This will be a 2 hour 40 minute long paper with 5 individual sections and 200 marks in total.

There will be 190 questions and each section has a separate time slot. Again, there will be sectional and overall cutoff marks.

Phase III: Interview (Not Confirmed Yet)

There is still no confirmation regarding Interview Round for SBI Clerk 2016. It will be subjected to government of India Approval.

Besides Interview, there will be a Local/ Official Language Test for those who haven’t studied local language in 10th Standard. The candidates who are not proficient in the official and/or local language will be disqualified.

From the examination pattern, these are the following points you need to keep in mind.

  • SBI Prelims will be qualifying in nature. It means marks secured in the preliminary exam will be considered while creating the final merit list.
  • There will be sectional and overall cutoff in both papers.
  • Final Merit List will consider marks from SBI Clerk Mains and Interview (if finalized).
