SSC Stenographer Syllabus Exam Pattern 2017: Recently, The Staff Selection Commission released an official notification for the recruitment of Stenographers of Grade C and Grade D Category. The selection process for the posts of Stenographer Grade ‘C’ (Group ‘B’ Non-Gazetted) and Stenographer Grade ‘D’(Group ‘C’ Non-Gazetted) will be based on the performance in the Written Examination followed by the Skill Test. The Exam will be held from 4th September to 7th September.

- Question paper will be of Objective Multiple choice type. Questions will be set in Hindi and English except Part-III.
- The time duration for general candidates will be 2 hrs. and 2 hrs. 40 mins for visually handicapped candidates
- There will be negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer.
- Candidates who obtain the qualifying marks in the CBT as may be prescribed by the Commission will only be called for the Skill Test
Skill Test
SSC Stenographer Skill Test requires you to go through following tests:
- You will be given a dictation for 10 minutes in English / Hindi.
- The speed will be 100 w.p.m for Grade C Stenographer and the speed for Grade D Stenographer will be 80 w.p.m.
- You will have to transcribe the dictation on a computer in a given amount of time.The transcription time will be:
Grade C – 50 min (English), 65 min (Hindi)
Grade D – 40 min (English), 55 min (Hindi)

Part I:General Intelligence & Reasoning
It would include questions of both verbal and non-verbal type. The test will include questions on analogies, similarities and differences, space visualization, problem solving, analysis, judgement, decision making, visual memory, discriminating observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning, verbal and figure classification, arithmetical number series, non-verbal series etc.

Part II:General Awareness
Questions will be designed to test the ability of the candidate‟s general awareness of the environment around him and its application to society. Questions will also be designed to test knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observation and experience in their scientific aspects as may be expected of an educated person. The test will also include questions relating to India and its Neighboring countries especially pertaining to Sports, History, Culture, Geography, Economic scene, General Polity including Indian Constitution, and Scientific Research etc. These questions will be such that they do not require a special study of any discipline. For VH candidates of 40% and above visual disability /afflicted by cerebral palsy and locomotor disability candidates and opting for scribe there will be no component of Maps/Graphs/Diagrams/Statistical Data in the General Intelligence & Reasoning / General Awareness Paper.
Part III: English Language and Comprehension
In addition to the testing of candidates’ understanding of the English Language, its vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms and its correct usage, etc. his/her writing ability, would also be tested.
