Uttarakhand Lower PCS Syllabus and Exam Pattern: The Uttrakhand Public Service Commission, popularly known as UKPSC, is the prime body for recruiting candidates for various positions in the state government departments of Uttrakhand. The commission releases the notification on its official website stating the number of vacancies and posts available for the candidates. UKPSC 2021 notification is yet to be issued by the commission.

UKPSC Lower PCS Exam Pattern 2021

The UKPSC Lower PCS Exam comprises three stages 

UKPSC Preliminary Exam

UKPSC Mains Exam

UKPSC Interview

Candidates are selected on the basis of their performance in all the three stages of UKPSC Lower PCS Exam.

Phase I: UKPSC Lower PCS Prelims 2021

The Preliminary Examination is of objective format with multiple-choice questions from General Studies and General Aptitude. The exam carries a maximum of 150 marks. The purpose of the exam is to screen candidates for the UKPSC Mains 2021. Check out the exam details below.

  • The total time allotted to the exam is 2 hours.
  • The Standard of the paper will be that of a Bachelor’s Degree Level.

Candidates who clear the preliminary examination will move to the next round viz. Mains exam. The marks obtained by qualified candidates in the preliminary exam will not be counted for their final selection.

Phase II: UKPSC Lower PCS Mains Exam

The Main examination will consist of 2two papers, i.e. General Studies and Essay & Drafting. The paper will be Subjective/ Descriptive type in nature and carry a maximum of 400 marks. Candidates need to obtain a minimum of 35% marks in Essay and Drafting paper.

  • Each question of general studies paper carries 10 marks.
  • The total time allotted for both the papers is 6 hours.
  • Marks obtained in the Mains exam will be counted for the final merit list.

Candidates securing the minimum qualifying marks move to the final round of the recruitment process i.e. Interview/ Personality test.

Phase III: UKPSC Lower PSC Interview

Candidates who clear the mains stage have to appear for the interview round conducted by the panel of experts. It carries a maximum of 50 marks. Candidates getting the minimum qualifying marks in both the mains examination and interview are selected for their desired posts.

Questions based on a broad understanding of ancient, medieval and modern India’s political, social, economic, and cultural aspects and India’s Freedom movement, growth of nationalism and attainment of Independence.

3. Indian polity and Economy

Questions based on Indian polity, Constitution, Panchayati raj and Community development, broad features of Indian economy and planning.

4. Geography and Demography of India

Questions will be based on a broad understanding of India’s geographical, ecological and socio-economic aspects and demography.

5. Current Events

Questions will be based on important Uttarakhand State, National and current International events, including games.

6. History of Uttarakhand

Ancient period (from earliest to 1200 AD) ; Medieval period (from 1200 to 1815 AD): Important dynasties and their achievements; Gorkha invasion and administration, British rule, Tehri State and its administration, role of Uttarakhand in the Freedom Movement of India and related eminent personalities, historical sites and monuments; movements for the formation of Uttarakhand, contribution of people of Uttarakhand in National and International fields, especially in Armed forces; different social reform movements, and different welfare programmes of Uttarakhand for SC, ST, children, minorities and women.

11. General Intelligence

1. Current events of International, National and State Importance

Coalition government system, economic liberalization, economic recession, regional extremism and separatist movements – Naxalism; Maoism and Salwa judum; national security, internal security, communal harmony, and international perspectives like- nuclear policy issues and conflicts; impact of globalization on the socio-economic conditions of developing countries and global food crisis.

2. Sports and Games

Questions based on important sports, games and tournaments, awards and personalities of the world, India and Uttarakhand will be asked.

3. History of India

History of India will cover a broad understanding of ancient, medieval and modern India’s political, socio-economic and cultural aspects; Indian freedom movement, growth of nationalism and attainment of Independence.

4. Elementary Knowledge of Indian Constitution

Questions will be set on the Indian Constitution as expected from an educated person who has not made a special study of the Constitution. RTI, Right to education, Intellectual property right and Consumer protection rights. Different Welfare programmes and Acts passed for the weaker and minority sections of society and different National and State Commissions for their upliftment.

5. Indian polity and Economy

The questions will cover Indian polity, Panchayati raj and Community development, broad features of Indian economy and planning.

6. Geography of India and Demography

It will include questions on a broad understanding of India’s geographical, ecological, socio-economic, and demographic aspects.

7. General Science and Environment

Questions on General science and environment will cover general understanding and application of science, including matters of day to day observation and experience, as may be expected from an educated person who has not made a special study of any particular scientific discipline, global environmental problems and solutions, nutritional requirements for human growth, application of genetic engineering in human welfare; diseases of cattle, birds, plants and their prevention.

8. Indian Agriculture

Questions will cover the general awareness of candidates regarding crops, white, yellow and green revolutions, agricultural production and its contribution to the rural economy, SEZ, use of Nano and bio-technologies in the field of agriculture, problems of Indian farmers, and land reforms.

9. Science and Technology

Questions will be based on candidates’ awareness of the development in science and technology, information technology, space technology, electronic media, and basic knowledge of computers and cybercrimes.
