UP Police SI Recruitment 2016: The Uttar Pradesh Sub-Inspector Recruitment Exam is administered by the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board. The board has issued an official notification to invite all the interested candidates to apply for the posts of sub-inspector. Both male and female candidates can apply for the same. This article highlights UP Police SI Eligibility Criteria and Physical Standards for both Male and Female Candidates.

The candidates can apply for this recruitment exam through the mode of online application. It is mandatory to fulfill an elementary eligibility criteria and physical standards to apply for this exam. Before applying for the exam, the candidates must make sure that they meet the minimum required eligibility criteria for the exam. So, this article is primarily focused on discussing and elaborating on the required eligibility for the UP Police Sub Inspector Recruitment Examination.

But prior to that, we are going to discuss the number of vacancies for both male and female candidates for the various posts of sub-inspectors in the Uttar Pradesh Police Department.


UP Police SI Vacancy 2016

There are 3307 Posts for Sub-Inspector, Platoon Commander and Fire Brigade Officer which are lying vacant. But the number of vacancy for each post differs from the other. Also, vacancy for male and female candidates is different.

Sub Inspector Civil Police, Platoon Commander, PAC, Second Officer Fire Department (Male)

Female candidates are only eligible to apply for the sub-inspector civil police recruitment whereas the male candidates are eligible to appear for all the posts. Out of the Total 3000 vacancies for the sub-inspector civil police, 2400 are for Male Candidates and 600 for the female candidates.


UP Police SI Eligibility Criteria 2016

Now, we are going to divert our attention towards the eligibility and physical standards required to apply for the exam.


A candidate must be either:

  1. A citizen of India, or  
  2. A Tibetan refugee who came over to India, before the 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
  3. A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Myanmar (Burma), Sri Lanka, East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar) with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (2) and (3) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.

Educational Qualification

All the different posts mentioned under the UP Police SI Recruitment Exam require different levels of educational qualification. The mandatory and minimum qualification required is,

For Sub-Inspector, Platoon Commander and PAC Posts

As per the norms established by Government by India, a Bachelor’s degree from a recognised university or equivalent degree that is recognized by the Government of India.

For Fireman Posts

As per the norms established by Government by India, a Bachelor’s degree in science stream from a recognised university or equivalent degree that is recognized by the Government of India.

Note: Application forms of only those students will be entertained by the concerned authorities who have appeared or accomplished his/her educational qualification. Applications forms of those students who are appearing in the final examination will not be rejected. A minimum 50 percent score is also compulsory to apply for the exam.

However, if two or more than two candidates score equally, they will be judged on a selective basis on following grounds,

  • Have accomplished ‘O’ grade acknowledgement certificate in DOEACC or NIELIT society.
  • Have serviced in Indian Army for a minimum period of two years.
  • Have received ‘B’ certificate in NCC.

Age Limit

Any candidate applying for this exam must not be less than 21 years and not more than 28 years of age as on the 1st July 2016. Upper age relaxation will be given to candidates belonging to scheduled caste, scheduled tribe and any other backward classes.

  1. Female candidates should have a minimum weight of 40 kg.
  2. 5 cm of chest expansion is essential for male candidates.
