UPSC IAS vs UPPSC Examination: The Civil Services Examination (CSE) is a nationwide competitive examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission for recruitment to various Civil Services of the Government of India, including the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). It is one of the most esteemed and toughest exams in the country. With a success rate of 0.1- 0.3 percent of the total percentage of candidates who apply, it is really difficult to nail the examination. For the UPSC IAS 2017 Exam, the total number of vacancies is 980 in the entire country

IAS Prelims Exam Pattern

The Civil Services Preliminary Examination is objective type in nature. As per the latest IAS Exam pattern, there are 2 objective type papers in IAS Prelims. These are:

  1. General Studies Paper-I
  2. General Studies Paper-II (CSAT)

Out of these two, marks for only General Studies-I will be taken into consideration. Civil Services Aptitude Test or CSAT is merely qualifying in nature and the candidate has to score minimum marks prescribed by UPSC to qualify. Both these exams are of 200 marks each.

What is the minimum qualifying marks to clear CSAT 2017? The Civil Services Aptitude Test is merely qualifying in nature with minimum qualifying marks of 33%.

After Prelims, UPSC draws a list of candidates who are shortlisted for Civil Service Main Examination based on the criterion of minimum qualifying marks of 33% in General Studies Paper II and total qualifying marks of General Studies Paper I of Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination.

*Please note that the marks secured by the candidate in the preliminary examination will not be taken into consideration while preparing the final list of selected candidate.

Let us now shift to the second core of this article i.e the exam pattern of the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission Examination. UPPSC Prelims competitive examination comprises three successive stages viz :

  • Preliminary Examination (Objective Type & Multiple choices)
  • Main Examination (Conventional Type, i.e. Written examination)
  • Viva- Voce (Personality Test).

UPPSC Prelims Exam Pattern 2017

The Preliminary examination will consist of two compulsory papers. Candidates have to print their answers on OMR sheets. The papers will carry 200 marks each and the total duration to solve the said exams is two hours. Both the papers will carry objective Type MCQ format.

  • Paper-II of the Preliminary Examination will be a qualifying paper with minimum qualifying marks fixed at 33%.
  • It is mandatory for the Candidates to appear in both the papers of Preliminary Examination for the purpose of evaluation. Therefore a candidate will be disqualified in case he does not appear in both in papers.
  • The merit of the Candidates will be determined on the basis of marks obtained in Paper-I of the Preliminary Examination.

General Studies Paper I & Paper II :

The papers shall be 200 marks each and of two hours duration. Both the papers shall be objective Type & multiple choice in which there shall be 150-100 questions Respectively. The timing of paper I will be from 9.30 to 11.30 A.M. and paper II from 2.30 to 4.30 P.M.

Now turning towards UPSC IAS vs UPPSC Eligibility Criteria, there a few metrics/ criteria according to which a candidate is deemed eligible/ not eligible. Below mentioned are the various eligibility metrics for both UPSC IAS vs UPPSC.

UPSC IAS Eligibility Criteria

Age limit: For IAS Eligibility, there is certain age limit set according to the category of the candidate. There is also a set number of the total number of attempts a candidate can appear for IAS Exam. For General Category candidates, the age limit is 21-32 years.

UPSC IAS No. of Attempts: In the UPSC IAS Exam, the number of times a candidate may attempt the exam is as follows:

  1. General Category: 6
  2. OBC Category: 9
  3. SC/ST Category: Unlimited

Age limit: Candidates must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have crossed the age of 40 years on July 1, 2017, i.e. they must have not been born earlier than 2 July 1977 and not later than July 1, 1996.
