IBPS RRB is one of the most popular exams in India. The exam is conducted by Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS), an autonomous body of the country founded in 1975. IBPS conducts exams for the post of Clerk, PO and SO every year. Furthermore, they are sub categorized into Officer Scale 1, Scale 2, Scale 3;  I.T. Officer, Chartered Accountant, Law Officer, Agriculture Officer, Marketing Officer, etc.

Selection Process

IBPS RRB has issued notification regarding the post of Officer Assistant, Officer Scale I,II, III. There are different selection procedures for different vacancies in IBPS RRB Examination 2017.

Officer Assistant Selection
The post of Office Assistant in Rural Banks is different than an Officer Post. It is a clerk-level post where you are in-charge of documentation, filing etc. Still, IBPS RRB Selection Procedure 2017 for Office Assistant (Multipurpose) Post is a 2-Tier Process. There will be a Prelims & Mains Written Examination for the recruitment to Regional Rural Banks (RRBs).

Officer Scale I
The post of Officer Scale I in Rural Banks is different than an Office Assistant. Unlike Assistant, it is more central towards decision making rather than clerical works.IBPS RRB Selection Procedure 2017 for Officer Scale I Post is a 3-Tier Process. There will be a Prelims & Mains Written Examination for the recruitment to Regional Rural Banks (RRBs), followed by an Interview.

Officer Scale II (General/ Specialist) & Scale III 
IBPS RRB Selection Procedure 2017 for both Scale II & III is a 2-Tier Process. But, unlike the recruitment process for an assistant, there will be a Single Written Examination followed by an Interview for the recruitment to Regional Rural Banks (RRBs).

Age Limit

The age limit of general category students applying for IBPS RRB exam usually varies between 18 to 28 years. The upper age limit for the same category of aspirants can go up to 30-40 years for a few posts. A few such profiles include Officer Scale 1, Officer Scale 2 and Officer Scale 3. Similarly, the lower age limit for a few posts such as Officer Scale 2 and Officer Scale 3 can begin from 21 years of age.

Age relaxation is permitted for other categories under IBPS RRB exam:

Persons With Benchmark Disability as defined under “The Rights of Persons With Disabilities Act, 2016”

Educational Qualification

The second major and important aspect for appearing in any government exam is educational qualification. By that as it may, the educational criterias for applying for various posts through IBPS RRB exam 2018 differs from each other. For example, candidates applying for IBPS RRB Office Assistant (Multipurpose) profile must have:

  • A degree from a recognized university or its equivalent before the announcement of applications date.
  • The candidate should be proficient in the official regional language of the state for which he/she is applying.
  • The aspirants must have computer skills.

Similarly, an IBPS RRB Officer Scale - I (Assistant Manager), should have

  • A degree from a recognized university in any discipline. It should also be noted that equivalent preference would be given to candidates from other backgrounds with degrees in:

 

  • Accountancy.
  • Information Technology, Management, Law, Economics and
  • Agricultural Marketing and Cooperation,
  • Pisciculture,
  • Agricultural Engineering,
  • Veterinary Science,
  • Animal Husbandry,

  • Another important factor never overlooked in a candidate applying for the post of IBPS RRB Officer Scale - I (Assistant Manager), is his/her proficiency in the local language.
  • Also, if a candidate has computer knowledge, then he/she will have added advantage over others.

Job Profile

The job profile varies under criterias like scale 1,2 & 3 and also on the designation such as PO, SO and Clerk. For example, job profile of IBPS RRB Officer Scale 1 includes work like:

Regional Rural Banks (RRBs): Undergoing training period, also referred to as the Probation period of Scale 1 officers. After successful completion of this period, employed candidates are recruited as Assistant Manager in the respective banks.

Daily Activities: The daily task of IBPS RRB Officer Scale 1 involves retail banking operations, loan disbursement, monitoring credit portfolio, NPA recovery, audit report preparation etc.

Other Activities: Many a times recruited candidates need to manage single window operations. This would involve activities like checking cash receipts, cash payments/ verification etc.

Key Focus Areas: As an IBPS RRB Officer Scale I Officer, the focus area is mainly on the agricultural and allied fields. The job involves improving the rural economy. For the same reason, and IBPS RRB Scale 1 Officer does regular checks on loan repayment. This is done by the officer to avoid transformation of agriculture loans of their branch into NPA.
