“Nasha Mukt Bharat: Annual Action Plan(2020-21)”

The Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Shri Rattan Lal Kataria, launched the “Nasha Mukt Bharat: Annual Action Plan (2020-21) for 272 Most Affected Districts” virtually on the occasion of “International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking” on 26 June 2020.

Key Points:

  • The minister also released a Logo and Tagline for National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction along with 9 Video Spots developed for Drug Abuse Prevention.
  • The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment is the nodal ministry for a reduction in the demand of drugs which monitors and coordinates with all aspects of drug abuse prevention including evaluation of the extent of the problem, treatment, preventive action and rehabilitating the addicts. The ministry also disseminates information and public awareness.
  • The emphasis of the “Nasha Mukt Bharat: Annual Action Plan (2020-21) for 272 Most Affected Districts” will be on 272 most affected districts.
  • The ministry will also launch an attack from three sides that will combine efforts of the Narcotics Bureau, Treatment through the Health Dept, and Outreach/Awareness by Social Justice.
  • The components of the action plan include:
  1. Awareness generation programmes;
  2. Focus on Higher Educational institutions, University Campuses and Schools;
  3. Community outreach and identification of dependent population;
  4. Focus on Treatment facilities in Hospital settings;
  5. and Capacity Building Programmes for Service Provider.
