“DIVYANGTA KHEL KENDRAS” SET UP BY MINISTRY OF SOCIAL JUSTICE AND EMPOWERMENT

Context:

On 20th June 2021, Union Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment, Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot, announced to set up “Divyangta Khel Kendras” across the country.

About:

• These will be set up to work towards the interest of Divyangjans in sports and their good performance in the Paralympics.
• 1st such Kendra would be opened in Ahmedabad City.
• It was announced while virtually addressing ‘Samajik Adhikarita Shivir’ in Gujarat.

Samajik Adhikarita Shivir:

• It was organised to distribute aids and assistive devices to ‘Divyangjan’ under the ADIP Scheme (Scheme of Assistance to Disabled Persons) of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
• In association with ALIMCO & District Administration Jamnagar, it was organized by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD).
• A total of 6225 aids and assistive devices costing around Rs.3.57 crore will be distributed free of cost to 3805 Divyangjan in the state.
• Assessment camps to identify Divyang beneficiaries were conducted under the ADIP scheme by ALIMCO in Jamnagar Parliamentary Constituency.
