21ST INDIA-RUSSIA SUMMIT

Context:

On December 6, 2021, Russian President Vladimir Putin visited India. He conducted the 21st India - Russia Summit with Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi.

Agreements Signed:

• During his visit, India and Russia signed 28 agreements. Some of them were secret. Therefore, the Ministry of External Affairs did not release all its details.

About the Conference:

• Both countries agreed to extend military-technical cooperation for another ten years.
• Traditional production under this partnership currently includes T - 90 tanks, MiG 29K aircraft, Su - 30 MKI, MiG upgrades, and a supply of Multi Barrel Rocket Launcher Smerch. India and Russia are currently building fifth-generation Fighter Aircraft and Multi-Role Transport Aircraft.
• The Reserve Bank of India and Bank of Russia have signed agreements to respond to cyber-attacks.
• Leaders agreed that both countries should share the same view of the situation in Afghanistan. They agreed to use a bilateral roadmap designed to work for Afghanistan.

Discussions during the conference:

• Leaders discussed the International North-South Transport Corridor and Chennai - Vladivostok Eastern Maritime Corridor (under the proposal).
• Russia welcomed the "Delhi Declaration on Afghanistan".
• India congratulated Russia on joining as an observer at NAM.
• Russia also congratulated India on its membership in the United Nations Security Council.
