3rd India Energy Forum by CERAWeek 

The 3rd India Energy Forum by CERAWeek was held in New Delhi from October 13 to October 15, 2019. 

The Agenda of the 3rd India Energy Forum by CERAWeek was “New India’s Energy @75: Balancing Energy Security and Sustainability.” 

Key topics discussed were: 

  • India’s transition in the energy sector
  • Low-carbon and sustainable energy solutions for India
  • Game-changing innovative industrial technologies
  • Opportunity for global oil and gas markets and investment
  • Growing domestic oil and gas production and to expand the use of natural gas across the economy
  • An opportunity to understand the Government’s priorities and the response from the public and private sectors. 

Key points:  

  • India’s share of renewables in electricity capacity has gone up now to 22% from around 10% in 2014-15. 
  • The percentage of ethanol blending has risen from 0.67% in 2012-13 to close to 6%. 
  • More than 95% of the households now have access to LPG, making the kitchens smoke free.
  • As part of the Government’s low- carbon energy future, the Government aims to set up a 450 GW of renewable energy capacity by the year 2030.
  • The per capita consumption of coal in India is about 1/10th of that of the United States.
  • Indian Railways is set to be 100% electrified by 2023.
  • The Government of India targets to transform the Indian economy to a 5 trillion dollar in the next 5 years.
