4TH ASIA MINISTERIAL CONFERENCE ON TIGER CONSERVATION

  • Bhupender Yadav, Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, delivered India’s statement at the Fourth Asia Ministerial Conference.
  • It was an important event to review progress in the Global Tiger Recovery Program and a commitment to tiger conservation.

Key Highlights of the Meeting:

  • Bhupender Yadav informed that India will assist Tiger Range Countries in finalizing the New Delhi Declaration of the Global Tiger Summit to be held in Vladivostok, Russia later this year.
  • In 2010, the “Pre-Tiger Summit” was held in New Delhi, wherein the draft declaration on tiger conservation for Global Tiger Summit was finalised.
  • Bhupender Yadav stated that India has achieved impressive work to double the number of tigers in 2018 itself, 4 years ahead of the target year 2022.
  • The successful Indian tiger governance model is now being replicated in other wildlife such as Lion, dolphins, Leopard, Snow Leopard and other small wild cats, while the country is on the verge of introducing the Cheetah in its historical range.
