97TH EDITION OF WORLD SANGEET TANSEN FESTIVAL

Context:

On 25 December 2021, the 97th edition of the World Sangeet Tansen Festival was launched in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. It will be organised till 30 December 2021 in Gwalior. 

Key Highlights:

• The World Sangeet Tansen Festival is a five-day festival.
• The stage of the festival is built on the theme "Siddhanath Temple" located in Omkareshwar.

Programs at the festival:

• At the music festival, many of the participating artists are from India and abroad.
• During the festival, a total of nine music concerts will be held.
• The first seven concerts were held on stage, prepared at the Tansen mausoleum and Mohammad Ghaus' tomb.

Eighth concert:

• The eighth concert is scheduled to be held on the banks of the Jhilmil River, on December 30. 
• It will be held in Behat, the birthplace of Tansen. 
• The last short concert will be at Gwalior Fort on December 30th.

About Tansen:

• Tansen, also known as Miyan Tan Sen or Ramtanu Pande, was a prominent figure in Hindustani classical music.
• He was born into a Hindu family and studied his art in Madhya Pradesh.
• He spent most of his adult life in the court and patronage of Raja Ramchandra Singh, the king of Rewa. 
• Mughal Emperor Akbar requested Tansen to join the musicians at the Mughal court and in 1562, he joined the Akbar’s court.
