Abhas Jha appointed to World Bank Key position in South Asia

The World Bank has appointed Indian Economist Abhas Jha to a key position on climate change and disaster management in South Asia.  The appointment of Abhas Jha comes at a time when several areas of West Bengal, Odisha in India and Bangladesh are severely hit by the cyclone Amphan.

Key Points:

  • Abhas Jha as the Practice Manager for Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management for South Asia will enable, encourage and assist the team of Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change of South Asia Region (SAR) to collaborate and connect with Global Practice boundaries.
  • Abhas Jha will also provide guidance to the World Bank to come up with and deliver high-quality and innovative development solutions to acknowledge the demands of clients and provide strength to the disaster risk management and climate action of the region.
  • He will collaborate with other Practice Managers, Global Leads and Global Solutions Groups for growing, setting up sample solutions and increasing innovative and high-quality solutions for the development and promotion of the generation and flow of global knowledge to serve the affected countries.
  • The area of jurisdiction under Abhas Jha includes Sri  Bangladesh, India, Lanka, Pakistan, Nepal, Afghanistan, and the Maldives.
  • Before his appointment to the position, he was serving as the Practice Manager for Urban Development and Disaster Risk Management in East Asia and the Pacific region.
