Amazon to invest 1 billion USD in India

Amazon.com Inc. founder Jeff Bezos wound up a three-day visit to India by promising to create a million jobs by 2025. He is to invest $1 billion in Asia’s third-largest economy.

Key Points:

  • Amazon plans to create these jobs through continued investments in technology, infrastructure, and its logistics network.
  • The jobs–created both directly and indirectly will be across industries, which includes information technology, skill development, content creation, retail, logistics, and manufacturing.
  • These million jobs will be an addition to the 700,000 Amazon’s investments that have already enabled over the last 6 years in India.
  • The retailer has always faced the rage of the small and medium enterprises in India for its discounts.
  • On January 14, 2020  a mega summit called the "smBhav" was organized by Amazon in the capital  to involve the small and medium businesses.
  • Nearly 3000 small and medium entrepreneurs attended the summit.
