Amazonia-1 satellite of Brazil will be launched by ISRO in August 2020

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will launch the Amazonia -1 satellite of Brazil in August 2020 onboard the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV). The design, assembly and testing of the Brazilian satellite have been done locally.

Key Points:

  • The Amazonia-1 satellite of Brazil is the first Earth satellite. The satellite will be the primary payload of PSLV and will not be an add-on satellite.
  • The satellite will be used for monitoring and observation of the Amazon Region. The recent fires of the Amazon Region make the launch of satellites very important. The satellite will also take the images of the vegetation and agricultural areas.
  • The Indian space agency is selected by many countries for the launch of their satellites since it provides commercially feasible launches.
  • After the successful launch of the Mars mission in 2014, many countries considered India as a possible destination for their satellite launches in a cost-effective manner.
  • Many South American countries like Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and México have Space Cooperation with ISRO at various levels. India is also an alternative for China for countries for space exploration.
  • India and Brazil had signed an agreement in the 6th BRICS Summit in 2014 about the setting up of a Brazilian earth station that will receive data from the Indian satellites.
