Anna Qabale Duba, a Kenyan nurse, won the Aster Guardian Global Nursing Award

Anna Qabale Duba, who is a Kenyan nurse stationed at the Marsabit County Referral Hospital, won the inaugural Aster Guardian Global Nursing Award for supporting education and campaigning against outdated cultural practices like Female Genital Mutilation in her community. Duba, who took home USD 250,000 in prize money, was feted by Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Emirates CEO at an award ceremony which was held in Dubai, which commemorated the International Nurses Day.

Note:

Duba being the only female graduate in her village, revealed that through her Qabale Duba Foundation, she had built a school in Marsabit that offers classes to young pupils and adults looking to get a decent education during the day and evening, respectively.
