APEDA SIGNS MoU WITH ICAR-CENTRAL CITRUS RESEARCH INSTITUTE NAGPUR

Context:

To increase the export of oranges and their value-added products, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the ICAR-Central Citrus Research Institute (ICAR-CCRI), Nagpur.

Aim of the MoU:

  • The MoU aims to promote export by focusing on the creation of special product groups and technology development by APEDA and ICAR-CCRI with a focus on efficient and accurate agriculture.

Significance of the MoU:

  • Collaboration with two well-known institutions will focus on diversifying export basket, locations and increasing exports of high-value agricultural products by establishing Brand India around the world.

About the MoU:

  • The MoU states that product development work includes digital integration in the sector, efficient quality control measures (Sanitary and Phytosanitary), and the development of organic farms.
  • APEDA and ICAR-CCRI will also facilitate skills-building for farmers, entrepreneurs, exporters and other stakeholders to promote agribusiness and export.
  • APEDA and ICAR-CCRI would collaborate on developing climate-resilient agriculture, promoting GAP certification, blockchain technologies and shaping business models around the needs of the farmers.
  • The Development of export protocols for citrus especially the sea transport for long-distance markets would be undertaken.
