Armed Forces Personnel with less than 10 years of qualifying service eligible for Invalid Pension

The Central Government has allowed the personnel from the Armed Forces having qualifying service of less than 10 years to avail Invalid Pension. Armed Forces Personnel who are invalided out of service due to disability which is categorised as Neither Attributable to Nor Aggravated (NANA) by Military Service will be granted the Invalid Pension.

Key Points:

  • The proposal was approved by the Minister of Defence Rajnath Singh. The Invalid Pension will be available to those Personnel of Armed Forces who were serving on or after 4 January 2019.
  • The previous term of qualifying service that was required for an invalid pension was ten years or more.
  • The approval of the proposal allows the Armed Forces Personnel whose service is less than ten year and who became invalidated out of service due to bodily or mental infirmity which is categorised under NANA by military service are eligible for the pension.
  • The government has also allowed pensions for those who have become permanently incapacitated and incapacitates them for the military of civil re-employment will receive the benefits.
  • The Defence pensions are paid to the pensioners from the Defence Services Estimates.
