Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram observed their statehood day on February 20, 2021.

Details

• Both of the states received their statehood on 20 February 1987.
• Arunachal Pradesh state shares the border with Assam and Nagaland to its south and has its international borders with Bhutan to the west and Myanmar to the east.
• Mizoram shares borders with three states among the Seven Sister States of old Assam that is Assam, Tripura and Manipur.

How a new state is created in India?

• Indian constitution empowers the Union government to create new states out of existing states or two merges one state with another. This process is called the reorganisation of the states.
• The basis of reorganisation could be linguistic, religious, ethnic or administrative.
• Article 3 of the Indian Constitution provides for the creation of a new state through a bill tabled in Parliament on the President's recommendation after consultations with the legislatures of the affected states.
