Awards given to winners of “Startup India-Animal Husbandry Grand Challenge”

The ‘Animal Husbandry Startup Grand Challenge’ was launched by the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, in collaboration with Startup India, to look for innovative and commercially feasible solutions to resolve the issues and challenges faced by the Animal Husbandry and Dairy sector.

Key Points:

  • The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi launched the challenge on 11 September 2019 at a national animal disease control program in Mathura.
  • The applications were accepted from Startups from 11 September 2019 to 15 November 2019 on the website of Startup India.
  • All startups could apply for the challenges with unique solutions to six problem statements in the following broader spheres which are (i) Value-added products,(ii)Single-use plastic alternatives, (iii) Eliminate milk adulteration, (iv) Breed improvement and animal nutrition, (v) E-commerce solutions and (vi)Product traceability.
  • In total, 157 applications were received.
  • A total of 12 Startups(2 from each category) have been selected after the final evaluation round.
  • The 12 Startups will be provided cash grants worth Rs 1,02,00,000. With the winner getting INR 10 Lakh and Runner up getting INR 7 Lakh.
