Battery Swapping Facility Quick Interchange Service inaugurated in Chandigarh

A Battery Swapping Facility Quick Interchange Service (QIS) was inaugurated by the Governor of Punjab-cum-Administrator, UT, Chandigarh, Shri V P Singh Badnore, along with Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, the Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas & Steel on 26 June 2020.

Key Points:

  • The Battery swapping technology is the best alternative to the slow charging and enables the drivers to utilise the operational hours with maximum efficiency.
  • The first target of the battery swapping model is the commercial segment, i.e., electric rickshaws, autos, and electric two wheelers. The electric vehicles fitted at the factory or retrofitted are also being targeted.
  • A Non-binding Strategic cooperation agreement has been signed by Indian Oil and M/s Sun Mobility. The two organisations will evaluate the establishment of Energy infrastructure for Electric vehicles via the Battery Swapping model throughout the Retail outlets of IndianOil in selected cities.
  • Indian Oil has planned to run a Pilot and offers Smart Mobility Proprietary Solutions (SMPLs ) for the support and service of vehicles including e-auto rickshaws, e-bikes, e-karts and e-rickshaws up to 25 quick interchange stations in selected cities throughout India.
  • The Pilot ROs – QIS will have an electricity sub-meter, a touch screen for swapping preloaded cards and 14 Batteries.
  • The QISs will be installed across major towns such as Amritsar, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Gurugram, New Delhi and others. The initiative will be pivotal in bringing reform in the energy sector.
