Bharatiya Poshan Anthem

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu has launched the ‘Bharatiya Poshan Anthem’ in New Delhi. This aims towards taking the message of making India malnutrition free to all corners of the country.

Key Points:

  • This anthem was conceptualised by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, penned by noted lyricist Prasoon Joshi and sung by Shankar Mahadevan.
  • PM Narendra Modi in March 2018 had launched the 'Poshan Abhiyan or National Nutrition Mission' intending to make India malnutrition free by 2022 by ensuring holistic development and adequate nutrition for pregnant women, mothers and children.
  • 34.7% of Indian children aged less than five are stunted, according to the Comprehensive National Nutrition Survey 2016-18.
  • "Poshan anthem" will lead to a path of nutrition revolution to transform India into a malnutrition-free country by the year 2022.

About POSHAN Abhiyaan:

The Prime Minister’s Overarching Scheme for Holistic Nutrition, also known as the POSHAN Abhiyaan or the National Nutrition Mission is Government of India’s flagship programme. This is to improve the nutritional outcomes for pregnant women, children and lactating mothers.  This was launched by the PM on the occasion of the International Women’s Day on 8 March 2018 from Jhunjhunu in Rajasthan, the POSHAN Abhiyaan directs the attention of the country towards the problem of malnutrition and also addresses it in a mission-mode.

For the implementation of  POSHAN Abhiyaan, the four-point strategy/pillars of the mission are:

1. Inter-sectoral convergence for better service delivery.

2. Use of technology i.e., Information and Communications Technology (ICT) for real-time growth monitoring and tracking of women and children.

3. Intensified health and nutrition services for the first 1000 days.
