‘CATCH THE RAIN’ AWARENESS GENERATION CAMPAIGN

Context

 “JSA II: Catch the Rain” Awareness Generation Campaign launched

Details

  • National Water Mission(NWM), Ministry of Jal Shakti in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports launched the “JSA II: Catch the Rain” Awareness Generation Campaign.
  • Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangthan to undertake ‘Catch the Rain’ awareness campaign covering 623 districts across the nation from December 2020 to March 2021.
  • Catch the Rain” Awareness Generation Campaign  aims :
    • To nudge all stake-holders to create Rain Water Harvesting Structures (RWHS) suitable for the climatic conditions and subsoil strata to store rainwater.
    • To engage people at the grassroots through effective campaigning and Information, Education and Communication (IEC) activities for implementation of the campaign.

About National Jal Jeevan Mission

  • It is envisioned to provide safe and adequate drinking water through individual household tap connections by 2024 to all households in rural India.
  • It will also implement source sustainability measures as mandatory elements, such as recharge and reuse through greywater management, water conservation, rainwater harvesting.
  • It will be based on a community approach to water and will include extensive Information, Education and communication as a key component of the mission.

About Jal Shakti Ministry

  • It is a ministry under the Government of India which was formed in May 2019 under the second Modi ministry.
  • It was formed by merging of two ministries; Ministry of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation and Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation.

Functions of Ministry

  • It was incorporated with an aim to clean the river Ganges.
  • It would also encompass any international or national disputes between inter-state water bodies and the rivers which are shared by India along with other neighbouring countries.
  • A special project "Namami Gange" project has been launched to clean Ganga and its tributaries to provide safe drinking water to people of the country.
  • It has also launched its special campaigns on social so that citizens of the country become aware of water conservation.
