Context

The central government has approved the Nag River Pollution Abatement Project at a total outlay of Rs 2,117 crore.

Details

• The Nag River is located in the state of Maharashtra and flows through the city of Nagpur, from which the city derives its name.
• The project is part of the National River Conservation Plan and the implementation will be carried out by the National River Conservation Directorate.
• The river has become highly polluted as a result of industrial waste and the project will reduce the pollution level in the river.
• The Nag river originates from the Ambazari Lake in west Nagpur.
• Major Tributaries - Pili river.
• End point - confluence with Kanhan River.
