CHINA’S PERMANENT SPACE STATION

Context

Recently, China launched the core module of its Space Station.

Details

• Module named : Tianhe", or "Harmony of the Heavens".
• It was launched on the Long March 5B.
• China’s multi-module Tiangong station is set to be operational for at least 10 years.
• The core module is the section of the station where astronauts will live for up to six months at a time.
• Tianhe is the core component of it.
• It is 16.6m long and 4.2m wide.
• It will provide power and propulsion and contains the life support technologies and living quarters required by visiting astronauts.
• The only space station currently in orbit is the International Space Station.

About International Space Station

• A habitable artificial satellite.
• It is the single largest man-made structure in low earth orbit.
• It circles the Earth in roughly 92 minutes and completes 15.5 orbits per day.
• Joint Project of NASA (United States), Roscosmos (Russia), JAXA (Japan), ESA (Europe), and CSA (Canada).
• It is expected to operate until 2030.
