CLIMATE HAZARDS AND VULNERABILITY ATLAS OF INDIA

About the map:

• Scientists have compiled a map based on 14 extreme weather events.
• They also consider the risks and threats posed by these 14 weather events to local people and their economy. Here ‘local’ refers to a district and not a state or village.
• The atlas includes heavy rain, drought, cold waves, heat waves, dust storms, hail, thunderstorms, hurricanes, snowfall, lightning, winds, and fog.
• The hazards and vulnerability values were calculated using Met department's weather history data.
• Each weather phenomenon’s month-wise hazard levels posed to the respective district are included in this one atlas.
• In all, 640 maps are available in the online atlas.
• The atlas offers a wide range of risks with risks ranging from nil, low, medium, high and very high in all regions of India.
