Colorimeter developed by IIT Kanpur for monitoring Water Quality

Start-ups incubated by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur have developed a smart device for monitoring and analysing the quality of water using an easy to use colorimetric test-strip.

Key Points:

  • The name of the device is ‘PADMAVATI’ and has been developed by the Start-ups, i.e. Earthface Analytics Pvt. Ltd. & Kritsnam Technologies Pvt. Ltd.
  • The device that uses the colorimetric test strip and is based on smart-phone technology displays several vital quality parameters of water under two minutes.
  • The new invention facilitates the analysis of different parameters of water quality in an easy to use, low cost, an eco-friendly method with a centralised data management scheme.
  • The system allows the testing of water quality thereby empowering the masses with an on-site, cost-effective and smart device that will enable the masses and authorities to deal with water contaminations issues ranging from the field level to the household level.
  • The new device will help in resolving the issues of water quality monitoring by providing an easy to operate the device.
  • The start-ups have also filed for a collaborative Indian Patent application for the device ‘PADMAVATI’. The company, Earthface Analytics Pvt. Ltd. is a company run by the Faculty Member, Dr Indra Sen of Department of Earth Science at IIT Kanpur.
