Corona Kavach app Launched by Government to fight COVID19

The Government of India has launched an app called the “Corona Kavach” to track the spread of the novel coronavirus, also known as COVID-19. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology along with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has taken the step to fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

Key points:

  • This app is currently available in beta phase and is available in the Google Play Store for android users only.
  •  It is a location-based tracking app that alerts people about the risk of them getting infected by the virus if exposed to someone with the virus in their vicinity.
  • The app provides information on personal hygiene, guides the users by indicating different colours on the health status by diagnosing the symptoms. Green colour indicates all good, orange-see a doctor, yellow-quarantine, red-infected and to visit the doctor if needed.
  • User has to provide a phone number and enter OTP to proceed further. It includes information on active corona infected cases, cured/discharged cases, passengers screened at the airport, and so on.
  • It provides a questionnaire that keeps a health record of users.
  • It functions as follows, when a button is pressed to activate the app for an hour which tracks user movements, from the time the person steps out of the home and it alerts the user in case the individual is nearby an infected person.
