Archana Ramasundram appointed as Director General of Sashastra Seema Bal

  • Tamil Nadu Cadre IPS officer Archana Ramasundram has become the first woman to head a paramilitary force.
  • Ramasundram was appointed as the Director General of Sashastra Seema Bal.
  • SSB guards India's frontiers with Nepal and Bhutan.
  • She is 58 years old Ramasundram is currently the Director of National Crime Records Bureau.
  • Besides her, IPS officer K Durga Prasad has been appointed Director Generals of Central Reserve Police Force. Another IPS officer K K Sharma will be new Chief of the Border Security Force.

Himachal Pradesh plans to spend 15 crore rupees on Swachh Bharat Mission in Kinnaur

  • Himachal Pradesh government has planned to spend fifteen crore rupees on Swachh Bharat Mission in the tribal district of Kinnaur.
  • The funds would be utilized in capacity building and organizing of workshops for awareness.
  • Under the Mission, The target has been also fixed to involve all the schools, government institutions and villages.
  • Under the Mission, the first installment of four crore fifty lakh rupees has been received by the district authorities.
  • Every single household will be given Twelve thousand Rupees for toilet construction for which survey was conducted in the year 2012.
  • Besides it, a special cleanliness drive would be launched under Swachh Bharat Mission with the help of Youth and Mahila Mandals in all the 65 Panchayat.
  • Five Panchayats have been selected under Solid Waste Management where organic fertilizers will be made from the waste.

Operation Smile-2 campaign achieves significant success in Odisha

  • The countrywide Operation Smile-2 campaign started in January 2016 to trace out missing children.
  • The operation has achieved significant success in Odisha rescuing 515 children.
  • During the first phase of the search operation, which was carried out from January 1st to 15th inside the state, the Odisha police were able to recover 330 children.
  • 185 children were rescued outside the state during the second phase of the drive that ended on 31st January.
  • The operation was launched in the state with joint efforts of Odisha Police and Women and Child Development Department to rescue and rehabilitate the missing children.

Saroj Kumar Jha appointed as Senior Director in World Bank

  • Saroj Kumar Jha has been appointed to a key position in the World Bank.
  • Jha assumed the position of Senior Director for the Fragility, Conflict and Violence Group at the World Bank.He has to work across the Bank Group and in close collaboration with partners.
  •  Jha is an alumnus of Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur.
  • He joined the World Bank in 2005 as a Senior Infrastructure Specialist in the Sustainable Development Network, after significant experience with the Indian Government and the United Nation's Development Program (UNDP).
  • Earlier, Jha worked as the World Bank's Global Manager for Disaster Risk Management Practice.

Rishabh Pant records fastest fifty against Nepal in ICC U -19 World Cup

  • India ‘s U-19 batsman Rishabh Pant made a record with 78 off 24 balls as India  defeats Nepal with a seven-wicket  in hand at ICC U-19 World Cup in Mirpur.
  • Left-hander Pant hit nine fours and five sixes during his fastest 50 off 18 balls in the U-19 World Cup history as India cruised to the victory target of 170 in only 18.1 overs.
  • Nepal, who have been the surprise package of the tournament, were blown away as Rishabh and skipper Ishan Kishan, 52, added 124 runs in 9 overs.
  • Earlier, Indian bowler Avesh Khan who took 3 for 34 and restricted the Himalayan nation to 169 for 8 in a match that was reduced to 48 overs.

Uber, NTR Trust ink MoU to encourage entrepreneurship, skill up gradation

  • NTR Trust, a not-for-profit organisation and Uber have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the objective of creating 20,000 new entrepreneurial opportunities in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
  • As a part of this MoU, NTR Trust and Uber will collaborate to provide skills training and co-create development programmes for driver partners.
  •  NTR Trust will help source, train, screen and facilitate seed funding and bank linkages for youngsters, who will go on to become micro-entrepreneurs on the Uber platform.
  • They together plan to reach out to potential candidates, train them and help eligible candidates procure loans from vehicle financing programmes.
  • The MoU was signed in the presence of David Plouffe, Chief Advisor of Uber Inc and Nara Lokesh, Trustee of  NTR Trust.
  • Uber was From founding in 2009 to its launches in over 361 cities in 66 countries, Uber's continues to expand. Its services are available in 26 Indian cities.

Dr. Shyam Agarwal takes over as new Secretary Tribal Affairs

  • Dr. Shyam S Agarwal has taken charge as the new Secretary of Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
  • He is a science graduate from Ravenshaw College (Utkal University) Shri Agarwal did his MA in Political Science and Economics. He also did MBA from the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia.
  • A Ph.D. in Economics from University of Southern California, Los Angeles, USA, Dr. Agarwal served in the Ministries of Commerce and Industry, MSME, Social Justice and Empowerment and Home Affairs in various capacities.
  • Dr. Agarwal was Secretary, National Commission for Scheduled Tribes before taking over the present assignment. He succeeds Shri Arun Jha.
