Centre infuses Rs 10,882 capital in 4 public sector banks

Indian government infused Rs. 10882 Cr in 4 public sector banks including UCO Bank and Syndicate Bank.

The government has planned Rs. 28615 Cr for 6 capital stressed public banks.

The government in previous round provided Bank of India Rs. - 10886 Cr, Oriental Bank of Commerce – Rs. 5500 Cr and United Bank of India – Rs. 2159 Cr.

Lok Sabha passes Indian Medical Council (Amendment) Bill

The Lok Sabha on 31st December 2018 passed the Indian Medical Council (Amendment) Bill, 2018 that aims to run the scam-tainted Medical Council of India (MCI) through a panel of eminent professionals.

With this, the government is looking at regulating the medical education in India in a qualitative and transparent manner.

ICC announces women's ODI and T20I teams of the year

The International Cricket Council on 31st Dec 2018 announced the women’s ODI and T20I teams of the year with New Zealand’s Suzie Bates named as captain of the 50-over side and Harmanpreet Kaur of India appointed captain of the 20-over side.

Veteran actor-writer Kader Khan passes away at 81

Veteran actor-writer Kader Khan has died in Canada due to a prolonged illness on 31st Dec 2018 at the age of 81.

The actor had been admitted after complaining of breathlessness and was put on a BiPAP ventilator. He was unable to talk and also showed signs of pneumonia. Kader Khan suffered from progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), a degenerative disease that causes loss of balance, difficulty in walking and dementia.

ASI declared 6 monuments of national importance in 2018

Archaeological Survey of India has declared 6 monuments of protected and national importance in 2018 which includes the 125-year-old Old High Court Building in Nagpur, Maharashtra, and two Mughal-era monuments in Agra — Haveli of Agha Khan and Hathi Khana.

The ancient Neemrana Baori in Rajasthan's Alwar district; the Group of Temples at Ranipur Jharail in Odisha's Bolangir district; and the Vishnu Temple in Kotali, Pithoragarh district, Uttarkhand, are the three other monuments that have been listed.

NASA spaceship zooms toward farthest world ever photographed

NASA’s New Horizons spacecraft is about to fly past the most distant space rock we have ever visited.

Since zooming by Pluto in 2015, the probe has been heading ever further from home, towards a tiny world called 2014 MU69. It is set to arrive on New Year’s Day 2019.

The rock is about 6.6 billion kilometres from Earth. It was only discovered in 2014 during a search for potential targets for New Horizons.
