CYCLONIC STORM ‘BUREVI’ OVER THE SOUTHWEST BAY OF BENGAL

India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced the formation of Cyclone Burevi over southwest Bay of Bengal. The cyclonic storm has been named ‘Burevi’ and the name is contributed by the Maldives.

Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) launched India’s first 100 Octane petrol. XP100 premium petrol will initially be available at select outlet of IOC in 10 cities -- Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Agra, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Mumbai, Pune and Ahmedabad.

EXPLAINED: HOW THE 1.5-TIMES FORMULA FOR CROPS MSP IS CALCULATED

The Commission for Agricultural Costs & Prices (CACP) in the Ministry of Agriculture would recommend MSPs for 23 crops. These included 14 grown during the Kharif/post-monsoon season and six in rabi/winter (wheat, barley, chana, Masur, mustard and safflower), apart from sugarcane, jute and copra.

Minimum Support Price (MSP) is a form of market intervention by the Government of India to insure agricultural producers against any sharp fall in farm prices —a guaranteed price to save farmers from distress sale.

GOVERNMENT E-INAUGURATES THE FIRST EVER VIRTUAL AADI MAHOTSAV – MADHYA PRADESH

Union Minister for Tribal Affairs launched the virtual edition of Aadi Mahotsav- Madhya Pradesh. Aadi Mahotsav is a national tribal festival and a joint initiative of Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India & Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED). The festival showcases traditional art and handicrafts and cultural heritage of the country.

WHO WORLD MALARIA REPORT 2020

World Malaria Report (WMR) 2020 released by the World Health Organization. India is the only high endemic country which has reported a decline of 17.6% in 2019 as compared to 2018.

Malaria is caused by Plasmodium parasites. The parasites are spread to people through the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes, called "malaria vectors."

GOVT CONSTITUTES HIGH-LEVEL MINISTERIAL COMMITTEE FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF PARIS AGREEMENT

Government has constituted a High-level Ministerial Committee for implementation of Paris Agreement. The Apex Committee for Implementation of Paris Agreement (AIPA) will be chaired by Environment Secretary.

It has been constituted with the purpose of “ensuring a coordinated response on climate change matters that protects the country’s interests and ensures that India is on track towards meeting its climate change obligations under the Paris Agreement including its submitted Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs)”.

India marks National Pollution Control Day on December 2 in the honour of people who lost their lives during the horrific 1984 Bhopal Gas Tragedy. The gas leak accident led to the loss of lives of thousands of people, exposing lakhs to harmful toxic effects in the time to come.
