Host-directed antivirals for COVID 19 to be developed by NCVTC

The National Centre for Veterinary Type Cultures (NCVTC), ICAR-NRC from Hisar has been given approval by the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) for a study that will screen a collection of 94 small molecule chemical inhibitors. The study intends to find antivirals against coronaviruses.

Approval given for the establishment of Pharmacopoeia Commission for Indian Medicine and Homoeopathy

The Union Cabinet under the chairmanship of Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has approved the re-establishment of the Pharmacopoeia Commission for Indian Medicine and Homoeopathy (PCIM&H) as a Subordinate Office under the Ministry of AYUSH. The office will be created after the merger of the Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia Laboratory (HPL) and the Pharmacopoeia Laboratory for Indian Medicine (PLIM). The two labs are central laboratories that were established in Ghaziabad in 1975.

MoU between India and Bhutan on Environmental cooperation approved by Cabinet

The Union Cabinet under the chairmanship of Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi approved the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Royal Government of Bhutan and the Government of India for Cooperation in Environmental areas. The MoU will facilitate the setup and promotion of closer and long-term cooperation between the two neighbouring countries in the field of environmental protection and natural resource management that will be based on equity, mutual benefits and reciprocity.

Approval given for the establishment of “Empowered Group of Secretaries (EGoS) and Project Development Cells (PDCs)”

The Union Cabinet under the chairmanship of Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has approved the establishment of an “Empowered Group of Secretaries (EGoS) and Project Development Cells (PDCs)” int the various Ministries and Departments of the Government of India, with the objective of attracting investments in India. The new process will provide strength and support to India’s vision of becoming a $5 trillion economy by 2024-25.

Cabinet Secretary will be the Chairperson of the Empowered Group of Secretaries (EGoS). 

Extension of Amery Ice Shelf (AIS) may have major impact on Climate, NCPOR study reveals

The boundaries of the Amery Ice Shelf (AIS) located on the east coast of Antarctica, will expand by 24 percent by 2021 and by another 24 percent by 2026 with respect to its 2016 position. The prediction has been made by the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR). The scientists at the NCPOR expect that the study will assist them in understanding the ongoing changes in the ocean and atmospheric forces better.

CSIR-CMERI develop new indigenous ventilator

Researchers working at the Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute (CMERI) based in Durgapur have developed a ventilator indigenously amidst the increasing COVID-19 cases. The ventilator was inaugurated in the presence of Prof. (Dr) Harish Hirani, Director, CSIR-CMERI. The cost of the ventilator is around Rs. 80,000-90,000. 

Govt launches SWADES to conduct skill mapping of citizens returning under VBM

A new initiative called ‘SWADES’ has been launched by the central government for conducting skill mapping exercises of the citizens who have returned under the Vande Bharat Mission. The acronym ‘SWADES’ stands for ‘Skilled Workers Arrival Database for Employment Support’. The initiative has been launched by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, in partnership with the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

'The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Ordinance, 2020'

The Union Cabinet under the chairmanship of Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has given approval to the ‘The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Ordinance, 2020’. The ordinance will allow the farmers to engage with wholesalers, large retailers, processors, exporters and aggregators on an equal footing without the fear of exploitation. The ordinance will also decrease marketing costs and enhance farmers income.
