The Arabian Sea has seen the highest-ever cyclonic disturbances in 2019

The year 2019 has witnessed the highest number of cyclonic disturbances , i.e., seven over the Arabian Sea, in the last 127 years. Of the 7 cyclonic disturbances over the Arabian Sea this year, 4 were recorded post-monsoon. The recorded last such activity was in the year 1982 and 2011 when four cyclonic disturbances were observed in the post-monsoon season.

The Government of India has halted online sales of drugs

Government of India has launched the 4th round of Regional Connectivity Scheme - UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik) which tries to enhance the connectivity to the remote and regional areas of the country. The focus areas in this round will be the NorthEast Region, Hilly States, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and Islands.

Masatsugu Asakawa has been elected as the President of the Asian Development Bank

Masatsugu Asakawa has been elected as the President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) by the Bank's Board of Governors. Currently, he is serving as the Special Advisor to Japan's Prime Minister and Minister of Finance. He will be assuming the office on 17 January 2020. He will be the 10th President of ADB. He will replace Takehiko Nakao.

Citizenship (Amendment) bill, 2019

The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill or CAB that was cleared by the Union Cabinet on 4th December 2019 will be tabled in parliament on Monday. The draft version of the bill also exempts parts of the Northeast, and will make it easier for non-Muslim refugees from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan to become Indian citizens.

Bharat Bond ETF

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on 4th December 2019 approved the creation of India’s first exchange-traded Bharat Bond Exchange Traded Fund (ETF), a move aimed at deepening the corporate bond market and reducing the cost of borrowing in India. Bharat Bond ETF is awaited to create an additional source of funding for Central Public Financial Institutions (CPFIs), Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs), Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs), and other government organisations.
