PROJECT DOLPHIN: WHY IT IS IMPORTANT TO SAVE A DECLINING RIVER SPECIES

On 15th August 2020, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the government’s plan to launch a Project Dolphin. As the Gangetic dolphin is at the top of the food chain, protecting the species and its habitat will ensure conservation of aquatic lives of the river.

EXPLAINED: WHAT THE OPENING OF WATERWAY WITH BANGLADESH MEANS FOR TRIPURA

Tripura opens its first-ever inland waterway with Bangladesh from Sonamura in Sepahijala district. It connects Sonamura, about 60 km from Agartala in the Indian side, and Daudkandi of Chittagong in Bangladesh was included in the list of Indo-Bangladesh Protocol (IBP) routes. It is the first international waterway with River Gomti approved as Indo-Bangla protocol route.

24X7 TOLL-FREE MENTAL HEALTH REHABILITATION HELPLINE 'KIRAN' TO BE LAUNCHED

The Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry will launch the 24x7 Toll-Free Mental Health Rehabilitation Helpline "KIRAN”. The helpline number is 1800-500-0019. It has been developed by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities to provide relief and support to persons with Mental Illness.

TEACHER’S DAY CELEBRATED ACROSS THE COUNTRY

In India, Teachers’ Day is celebrated annually on September 5 to mark the birthday of the country’s former President, scholar, philosopher and Bharat Ratna awardee, Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was born on this day in 1888.

BIMSTEC CHARTER FINALIZED 23 YEARS AFTER INCEPTION

The charter of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (Bimstec) has been finalized, which is expected to move the regional organization forward. It took more than 23 years for the legal document of Bimstec, founded in June 1997, to be finalized.

It constitutes seven Member States: five deriving from South Asia, including Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and two from Southeast Asia, including Myanmar and Thailand.
