“Healthy and Energy Efficient Buildings” Initiative announced by EESL and USAID

The Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) has collaborated with the MAITREE program of U.S. Agency for International Development’s (USAID) to launch the “Healthy and Energy Efficient Buildings” on the occasion of World Environment Day on 5 June 2020. The objective of the MAITREE program is to accelerate the adoption of low cost and effective energy efficiency practices as standards within buildings and focuses specifically on cooling.

National awareness campaign on ‘Prevention of Human and Animal Mortality on Highways’ launched

The Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Shri Nitin Gadkari launched the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) national awareness campaign on ‘Prevention of Human and Animal Mortality on Highways’ through video conference on 5 June 2020. In India, nearly five lakh road accidents happen every year, which translates to the loss of about 1.5 lakh lives. Through this campaign, the government is trying to reduce the figures by 20-25 percent by 31 March 2021.

CSIR and Atal Innovation Mission sign a Letter of Intent to Foster Innovation in the Country

The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has partnered with the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) for the promotion of innovation in the various sectors of the country, signed a letter of intent. Under the initiative, problem-solving mindset will be inculcated in students across schools in India by closely cooperating between Atal Tinkering Labs and Jigyasa.

Low-cost catalyst for hydrogen generation from water developed by CeNS

A cost-effective and efficient way has been developed by the scientists from the Centre for Nano and Soft Matter Sciences (CeNS) for the generation of hydrogen from water by utilizing Molybdenum dioxide as a catalyst. Platinum can be replaced with Molybdenum dioxide as it is low cost and effective, unlike Platinum which is expensive and has limited resources.

Payment Infrastructure Development Fund created by RBI

A Payments Infrastructure Development Fund (PIDF) has been created by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to motivate and stimulate acquirers to position Points of Sale (PoS) infrastructure. The PoS infrastructure will be established in both digital and physical modes in tier-3 to tier-6 centres and north eastern states. An initial contribution of Rs.250 crore will be made by RBI to the PIDF and will cover half the fund.

‘#iCommit’ Initiative launched by Power Minister on 5 June 2020

The Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power and New and Renewable Energy, Shri R. K. Singh, launched the ‘#iCommit’ initiative on 5 June 2020, on the occasion of World Environment Day. The initiative seeks to make individuals and stakeholders move to energy efficiency, renewable energy, and sustainability and create a strong, robust and resilient energy system for the future. The ‘#iCommit’ campaign will be run by the Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL).
