India wins first-ever cricket test series in Australia

India won their first ever Test series in Australia after the 4th and final match at the Sydney Cricket Ground ended in a draw following three rain-truncated days on 6 Jan 2019.

India have toured Australia since 1947 but never before managed to win a series in the country. But it all changed this time as Virat Kohli led his side to 2-1 series victory after winning the first Test in Adelaide and the third Test in Melbourne.

Total value of Bhim UPI transactions crosses Rs 1 lakh cr in Dec 2018

The value of monthly transactions made using the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) crossed the Rs 1-lakh-crore mark for the first time in December 2018, show data released by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).

It was 82232 crore rupees in November and 74978 crores in October 2018.

Asha Parekh, Farooque Shaikh to be honoured by Bimal Roy Memorial and Film Society

Veterans Asha Parekh and Farooque Shaikh are set to be honoured by the Bimal Roy Memorial and Film Society to commemorate the 52nd death anniversary of the renowned filmmaker.

The organisation was instituted 22 years ago in memory of the late filmmaker. Its aim is to reward unsung heroes of the film industry. A special function will be held on January 8.

Golden Globe Awards 2018

The 76th Golden Awards were concluded on 7th Jan 2019.

Golden Globe Award was first held in January 1944 and it honored the best film and television, including cast and crew. Currently, the Golden Globe has 25 categories; 14 in motion pictures and 11 in television.

Parliamentary’ panel proposes legal status for SSC

A Parliamentary Standing Committee (PSC) has recommended that the Centre accord statutory status to the Staff Selection Commission (SSC), one of the largest recruitment agencies in the country.

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and all State Public Service Commissions either have constitutional or legal status.

The SSC is the only such organisation that performs similar functions on a much larger scale, but does not enjoy statutory status.
